Transponder Key Programming Problems

I have a 2008 silverado and got keys from ebay and can't program them. I insert my original and turn to run, then wait a little bit then remove and insert new key and wait for the security light to go out. Well my light never goes out. I got 3 keys now from the same person and still can't program. Also yes it is the proper key with the + and circle on it. Any advice now.

Is is possible that your ebay keys are fakes and dont have any transponders at all?

I opened one key just to see and there is a chip in there. It is not attached to anything thought. Just sitting inside the plastic case. I guess it sends a signal without grounding itself to the key. I just got one last one today and will see later if this one works. Quite frustrating.

Yeah the chip is somewhat like a circuit completion to tell the security that it not an unauthorized duplicate

Either you are doing something wrong or the keys are garbage. If they are made in China, that's the problem.

Well I tried the last key and the same problem. I just get the message service security system in my dic. I realy do hate these keys. They don't stop anyone from stealing a vehicle either. Just a pain in the ass. Hope someone with a new style chev or gm that has programed there own can tell me exactly what they did.

Does any one know if these keys can be programmed across the board of vehicle models. In other words do they make tons of these keys with a universal transponder and then get the key cut for truck or car or suv

 

Also if you wanted I guess you could take the chip out of the stock one and place it in the steering column cover and badda bing you should work all the time no matter. Thats how some aftermarker DEI remote starts work. They place a stock chip key in the module that completes the circuit.

The keys are universal to some point. They will work on a few different models. Usualy easy to program. As for removing the chip. Well I tried just for fun to see what would happen if I removed the chip key out of the new key and inserted it in ignition and placed my original key close to the ignition and it did not work. I'm not realy sure how these thing realy work.

It is possible for the PASS-Key® III+ decoder to learn

the transponder value of a new or replacement key.

Up to 10 keys may be programmed for the vehicle. The

following procedure is for programming additional keys

only. If all the currently programmed keys are lost or do

not operate, you must see your dealer or a locksmith

who can service PASS-Key® III+ to have keys made

and programmed to the system.

See your dealer or a locksmith who can service

PASS-Key® III+ to get a new key blank that is cut

exactly as the ignition key that operates the system.

 

 

To program the new additional key:

 

1. Verify that the new key has a + stamped on it.

2. Insert the original, already programmed, key in the

ignition and start the engine. If the engine will not

start, see your dealer for service.

3. After the engine has started, turn the key to LOCK/

OFF, and remove the key.

4. Insert the new key to be programmed and turn it to

the ON/RUN position within five seconds of turning

the ignition to the LOCK/OFF position in Step 3.

The security light will turn off once the key has

been programmed.

5. Repeat Steps 1 through 4 if additional keys are to

be programmed.

I also tried that. I mean start the truck first with original key. I read that there is no need to start the truck.

Sounds like you got cheap, shitty keys. I've never had any problem programming new keys following the procedure

Well, if you followed the procedure to the letter than you have to come to the realization what you bought is junk. If you can get your money back, go for it and then go to a GM dealer and get a key made.

Are you starting the truck with one of the original keys? If not, then it won't work. It's time to head to the dealer and get a key.

My original keys work just fine. I just wanted an extra one just incase. Too late to get my money back from the person I got it from on ebay. Ah well I guess I have a very expesive key that will just unlock my doors. Thanks for the reply guys. I apreciate it.

i also bought keys off ebay for our 07 hoe, you must program them by the book,you must start the engine as it says,mine work fine,hope this helps
