2003 Sierra

G'day guys, I'm new to the forum but I'm looking at buying a truck for work uses, just for carrying my tools around and occasional taking stuff to the tip. Anyways I have spotted a 2003 GMC Sierra LS 1500 in manual, its a 4.3L V6, does anyone have any tips/reviews/experiences they can share? Thanks much.

 

Its a single cab, looks like short wheel base.

 

I live in Australia, its advertised at $20,000 which is quite cheap.

 

I'd go for a V8, but I'm not legally allowed to as I'm in the age bracket of 18-22, so no V8s. Otherwise there is this mint 96 Silverado for $28,000.

not to question you guys but man that sucks. im 21 and have a v8. but the 4.3 is a solid motor. and the SL is a basic trim so nothing fancy there to go wrong on you.

yeah i guess it sucks over there for trucks, i work for a company out of australia and this guy just bought a used f250 for like 50k, and they are making 3/4 tons unavailable now, youd think with all the cattle and sheep ranching theyd need some solid gm hd's

They are good trucks. I can't say whether or not that is a good price in Australia or not. IF it is that sucks because you could get that same truck new here for $20,000.

Agreed. Bought my 2003 Silv 4.6L w/ auto new for $16104 (taxes, tags, dealer prep, etc. incl.) AUD20K = $19.6K.

I've had one with the 4.3 v6 for years. It's a good reliable motor

4.3l is a fine motor. Reliable and with the right gearing can pull anything that is reasonable for a 1/2 tonne. Unfortunately the 5 speed hurts towing capacity but for everyday driving it will be just fine

Yeah, the prices down here suck for cars which arent sold in our market, you have to buy the car, pay import tax, plus GST, then luxury car tax, shipping, plus $40000 on top to convert it to right hand drive and complianced to meet ADRs. They end up about $150000 in the end.

Can anyone here tell me what size tyres these have? From a vague picture, it looks like 205/70/15 to me:

 

 

For the record, we don't have any trucks available, even though we have Ford GM (Holden) and Dodge in our market. The closest thing we have to trucks is utes:

Indeed, I'm trying to go for a Category H firearms license at the moment (to get a pistol), I have to have someone who has known me for at least 5 years sign my forms, the police are going to look into me, I need to be a member of a pistol club, their chairman has to approve me to go for the license, I need a gun safe that is bolted to a structural part of my house which the chairman and the police approve, I can't own a pistol for at least 6 months, then I am elegable to go for one. Once I have the license, the police will come to my door and check my gun safe and where my guns are randomly every year.

 

Everyone here in Australia is very anti guns. The laws here are insane, I'll go further into detail later if you want.

 

Anyways, yes those little reflectors and side indicators are part of the ADRs.
