Pretty impressive especially the base 3.7.

Funny...when it was pointed out how the F-150 was with the boat anchor engines, the blind Ford cheerleaders said that speed didn't matter and that it was juvenile to to use the lack of speed against the F-150 because trucks are not meant to get up and go.

But not...when there is an updated powertrain with new boat anchors, they are thumping their chests saying how much better the F-150 is because it's fast.

And it's really not impressive at all...that is what happens when you have a modern day powertrain rather than one that was developed in the 80s.

One of my friends has a company truck with a 4.2 V6 engine and it burns as much gas as a V8 if not more. Its a 2007 model I think and has almost 90K miles on it. Its been dead reliable but I am not impressed with it one bit. Talk about a boat anchor.

Just my opinion but Ford has been behind in engines for a long time. The 4.6 and 5.4 have proven to be long lasting and reliable but they were too thirsty. Just look at the crown vics still running. Cabbies run them into the ground after the police departments get done with them. You know they dont have a easy life. They got the job done but they had no answer to the big Gm 6.0 or 6.2. That has changed now. Gm sells a lot of trucks and Ford had darn well better pay attention to what they are doing. I think this was one of the only gripes the Ford faithful had and Ford has now addressed it.

The turbo 6 will be an interesting study. Some say it wont last and others embrace it. Some are afraid of the new stuff in a truck of all things but they have been putting it into the Flex and Taurus for a while with no issues. I think its going to be a big hit. Time will tell of course but I think this is the future.

HP numbers are meaningless in real life with a truck. That torque number of 420 at 2500rpm on the 3.5 v6 is what a truck needs. Too bad GM is still stuck in the HP wars and is doing nothing for real usable torque at a reasonable rpm level.

Those are some pretty impressive runs. Maybe I'm wrong, but it looks like those 2 trucks might have been special Ford tuned trucks. I've got a buddy that has a 2010 F-150 with a 5.4 and he can't power brake but that little V-6 sure could.

I drove a friends shortbed pickup with the 5.4 and it wouldn't powerbrake either

What is really interesting is that even with TONS more HP and Torque...the mediocre F-150 cannot tow any more than it could with the boat anchor 5.4

Which CLEARLY tells anyone with a brain cell or two working, that Ford lied about the capability numbers of the 5.4. How can a truck with 310HP pull the same as a truck with 400+ HP?

HP and TQ are great for getting something moving, but it takes more than that to get your tow ratings up.

True...but when a truck with a claimed 11,300 pound tow rating struggles badly with a trailer that weighs HALF that...you know something isn't right...or that Ford is being anything but honest.

These new engines--with their claimed better power ratings yet unchanged tow ratings--just conforms that Ford pencil whips their capability claims.

Anyone can slap a turbo or two on a v6 and make it run good :)

Exactly. This is the same reason they slap the DOHC setup in most of their Engines because they have never figured out how to get any performance out of a reg old Pushrod V8 like GM has.

Ford can't.

Most of the engineering for the Twin Force system was done by Bosch.

My alum. block 5.3 won't powerbrake either. Won't hardly break a tire loose around a corner on dry pavement. My wifes Commander hemi will squal all four tires anytime you hammer the gas. That crackerbox will outrun my Sierra any time of any day, and that was before I put a Predator on the Jeep.

Those Hemi's are not all that impressive, I raced a Grand Cherokee with the Hemi the other night from a stoplight, it got me off the line, but that quickly changed about 4 seconds later, he was moving slowly behind me and by the time we hit 80, He was about a car length behind.
