Curbside View Option With Aftermarket Mirrors

Recommended Posts

I have a 2006 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 that came with a feature called "curbside view" that is controllable through the DIC. It can be turned to Driver, Passenger, or Both depending on the setting you set in the DIC by going into the vehicle settings menu.

Recently my passenger side mirror broke and I had to replace it with an aftermarket mirror. Now the new aftermarket mirror only slightly moves down, or doesn't move at all, when going into curbside view, like it's trying to do it but doesn't understand what to do. I was wondering if this feature was compatible with aftermarket mirrors and I just need to reprogram it, or if I have to bite the bullet and visit the dealer? If I need to reprogram it, any instructions would be very helpful, the user's manual of the truck was useless.

Can you adjust the mirror normally in, out, up and down? Do you also have the mirrors that fold in? If so, you might have to reset the mirror. That procedure is described in the owners manual; at least it is in mine. If that doesn't work, maybe the aftermarket mirror doesn't have the gears necessary to accommodate the curbside assist.

Yea I can move it normally no problem, it's manual fold in though. The manual didn't really describe how to reset curbside view except to "shift to Reverse®, set the mirror to the desired position, and shift outside of reverse. The new position will be remembered as curbside view". Which I tried, and it does go down like it's trying, but it stops going down after only going down 1/4 of the way. Then when I shift out of reverse, it doesn't attempt to return to where it was. Looking at the connector, I noticed four brown wires that were on the connector of the original that aren't on the aftermarket replacement. I wonder how important they are - going to visit the dealer tomorrow to see if their techs have any ideas.
