Best Handheld For 2001 Yukon Denali

I realize that there are a bunch of topics on this, but I wasn't able to find the exact information that I'm looking for without a large amount of clutter.

This SUV will never have anything past very minor bolt-ons, so I am not interested in a custom tune. I am also not keeping it that much longer, so the ability to recoup costs of a handheld is a bonus.

Which unit is considered the "best" for the 2001 LQ4? I hear that Diablo doesn't have TCM control and the SUperchips does? Superchips is local to me, so that may be a plus. The truck is mostly used for commuting and towing, so fuel economy and low-end torque take precedent.

Finally, which intake do people consider to have the best gains, or are they all considered the same? Anyone using Vararam? They usually offer nice gains on other platforms that I've dealt with.

i got a superchips for my 5.3 and heres my review on it. its compatible with the 6.0 too so it will do the same thing.

you heard what about tcm/tranny control?? need to do some more research...

for your 2001 Yukon, the DiabloSport Predator has full/complete transmission control and adjustability... plus, even though you say for now that you don't want custom tuning, you ARE able to get full custom tuning done for it/your vehicle from diablosport CMR custom tuners (like myself) to get even more performance from your truck...

and, the diablo predator offers the most comprehensive, dyno-created tunes of any handheld, plus gives you the most end-user adjustability than any other handheld out there... plus, as I mentioned, the ability to get custom tuning done for it and your vehicle, which the others do not....

Thanks, I have a SLP predator on my GTO, but it's an M6 so I didn't need TCM control. I must have misread somewhere about TCM control on these. So, what aspect of the TCM can the predator control?

GMT-800 trucks don't have "TCM's" The transmission is controlled by the PCM. You have shift point, shift pressure, and full torque management control. The diablosports are awesome handhelds for the GMT-800 trucks. Alot more options than almost anything else on the market. It's def. the closest thing you get get to a true custom tune. With that said, if you found a great deal on superchips, it's certainly a good choice as well. My friend with an 07 Classic runs superchips and loves the results.

As far as intake goes, I've always been a fan of Volant or S&B because they are true cold air intakes. S&B is a little cheaper, but doesn't lack in quality either. If you do a search on the Vararam intake, you'll find some info here about it. I personally can't speak about it.

If you plan on getting another GM then the Superchips Cortex would be my choice if you are set on the handheld route. The cortex supports the GM brand not just specific years and models. It will even tune diesels. So you could carry it over to your next ride as long as it is another GM. The diablo products are year range specific.

Of course you could always hold out until you get another ride and go the autocal route.

We're not too far from adding support for the older GM trucks in the Trinity, which is one part number for ALL GM, Ford and DCX applications, Gas and Diesel ;)
