Muffler For Dod?

I am looking for the correct muffler to increase flow (Performance) on my new 2010 Escalade EXT.

THe truck has the V8/V4 DOD going on which is nicely quieted by the factory muffler. I am adding a cold air (K&N), American Racing LT's with cats, and a performance tune. I already have the parts sitting in the garage!

No one except Corsa makes a cat back, and at $1200, I'm not game for that unit. The truck already has the mandrel bent 3.25" tubing, so I'm thinking of just cutting out the factory huge muffler and welding in a performance muffler.

I like the sound of a Magnaflow, but also the FlowMaster Pro series Hush Power unit. THe latter features 3.5" inlet and outlet and a 16" body. That should keep it pretty quiet, something I want, and still afford more flow.

BTW, next summer I will bolt on a supercharger, then within a year add a cam also. My goal is sub 12 second quarter mile times. I think a big truck like the Esky would be a hoot being that fast.

Can you elaborate some? Why would I want it turned off? What are the advantages? The obvious disadvantage would be a loss of about 1 MPG.

Headers are installed and the first custom tune has been also installed.

 

Regarding the muffler and sound. I am keeping the factory cat back. It just sounds great. No need to make a bunch of noise, the LT headers and the high flow cats and larger tubing added considerably to the sound. I think it is where it should be. At now well above 400HP I am opting for the subtle approach. No need to make a powerful (loud) sound, this truck really IS powerful.

I'll post a full writeup on the headers install in a day or so.

When i got my BB tune i had the 4/8 mode turned off until 60mph. I like it on highway because i do a lot of driving..... but didnt want it while driving in city

That's a good idea. I was driving around today and watching it. It never went into V4 mode, so mine must be turned off also. I am going to pull a log on it tomorrow and send that off for a retune/adjustment. I might ask for the same thing, V8 only at slower speeds, then econ V4 at highway speeds...
