08 Silverdo, Good Deal?

I was checking out newer trucks at GM the other day, and found something I liked.

 

08 Silverado, LT or LS (whatever the mid trim is) ext cab Z71 113,00 km, and the dealership has it listed at $19,995

 

They claim the vehicle was owned by one of their salesmen, and they have full service records along with an extended warranty.

 

 

Does that sound like a decent price? or are the km's too high?

 

 

And is there anything in particular I should be looking for in the service records?

The km's are REALLY high for an '08.... but I guess it depends on what it was used for. If it was just the salesman's, how far did he have to drive every day to work??

The salesmen I was dealing with (not the original owner) said they were all highway km's

 

I didn't have time to go over the maintenance records, or find out more history about the truck.

 

 

The bed & interior are immaculate, not a single scratch or scuff anywhere

 

 

If I can get them to come down a bit on the price, does it sound like an ok deal?

Whose extended warranty and for how long? If it's a GM extended warranty then it's worth something. If it's a third party warranty they're usually worthless.

 

I should be looking for in the service records?
You're looking for major repairs such as engine or transmission repair or replacement. You're also looking for brake replacement because at 70k miles the truck could be getting close.

Pull a CarFax on it to check for accidents. Look under the truck and look for evidence that it was driven on a gravel road. There will be gravel/dirt in the frame rails or on top of the spare tire and more rust than usual especially behind the tires.

Prices are location dependent. Around here, assuming it was a LT and not a LS and it had the 5.3L V8 that truck would list for around $22,000 USD.

Its an extended warranty from GM, the remaining term eludes me... but I'll find out.

 

 

If I were to find a major repair/replacement in the service records, should that be a deal breaking red flag?

 

 

Assuming the truck is in good mechanical shape, the price seems about right. If I can ge them to come down a bit, and throw in some extras I'll be a happy camper

I've just recently done a lot of research on the 08's before I bought out my lease and those kms are high for an 08 but the price seems like it's right in line with what I saw. Is it a GM dealership?

 

Check out how much longer the GM extended warranty is good for and take a closer look at some of the records to see what's been done on it.

 

Maybe see if you can talk to the owner.

I'll take a look at the service records and see what I find.

 

 

I've been approved for the asking price of the truck @ 6.89%, 72 month ( which I think is good, considering my credit rating is horrible )

 

 

My 02 Sierra ( what's left of it ) is already sold, so hopefully I can make a deal with them.

Absolutely not, if it was performed by a competent service department. What you're concerned about is what they busted up/didn't get back in right/not an exact match, etc. If it was done at a GM dealer than you're okay. I've got a '98 Pontiac Grand Prix that got at new transmission under warranty at 26,000 miles. It now has 252,000 miles on it and I expect the powertrain to last 400,000 miles plus.

 

I'm just concerned about the high km's

GM has a 100,000 mile warranty, Ford has a 60,000 mile warranty. Which company has more confidence in their products? The only thing to take into account on a high mileage GM product is that you're closer to having to replace brakes, tires, shocks/struts, etc. because they're reaching the end on their life cycle.

I work for a Tier 1 supplier to 60 automakers woldwide. I wouldn't worry about the high mileage on a recent GM product. The GMT900 is the best truck made and sold at the present time.

Final offer I got was 1000 off the price, spray in over the rail bed liner, and tinted windows

 

It's a GM optimum used vehicle, and there are no major repairs in the service records

 

 

I pick it up next week

Do you really wanna pay for a 3 year old truck for 6 years? Might want to consider something cheaper. Just Khomeini.

So you will have it paid off when its 9 years old? Id buy something way cheaper if I were you. Get a cool 2 Wheeler for half that. :)

It's open ended, and I get a $6 raise at work, and hopefully overtime will come back in January, so I'm hoping to have it paid off much sooner.

 

I need 4wd where I live.

      Thanks; I looked there a few minutes, and I think I can find something. I really never looked there, as I thought it was stuff like PTO/aftermarket bodies/accessories like snow plows.

      This is a 1/2 ton thing ONLY.  All HDs 2020-2026 have the two speed transfer case, with Autotrac as an option.     1/2 tons 2019-2026, regular 4x4s come with a single speed case (no 4LO!), and trucks with Z71 ordered, or all Trail Boss trucks come with the 2 speed case.  2 speed case is also an option on WT, and is also standard on High Country.

      2013 5.3 still to this day calls for the PF48 filter.  Which as a 15psi bypass pressure.     There is a TSB, 17-NA-157 that talks about the PF-63 and PF-64 filters which have a higher bypass rating of 22psi.    TSB HERE - temp.xml   "Beginning in 2012, the oil pumps began to regulate main gallery feedback instead of pump out pressure. This means that the oil pump now does not begin to regulate until pressure is built up to the main gallery. This change reduces the amount of time it takes to provide oil to the engine bearing and lifters during extreme cold start conditions.  Main gallery feedback oil pump control systems are present on the following engine families which use Spin-on oil filters: Small Gas Engine (SGE), Large Gas Engine (LGE), High Feature (HFV6) Gen2 and Small Block Gen5 gasoline engines. These engines with the main gallery feedback oil pump control systems are factory built with an ACDelco® oil filters"   It also calls out what engines use those filters.  The gen 4 small blocks were not on that list (LMG, LC9, L9H, L92, L94, L20, L96).  Gen 5 small blocks use the higher pressure filter.          That all said...   Your 7045 Napa filter is the PF63 equivalent, with 22psi bypass.  You are already using the higher bypass pressure filter.  You CAN keep using it, you don't technically have to use it though.

      Do you know WHY the filter relief setting was increased to 22 psig?    When the new system goes into the second stage the pump volume ramps up considerably. It was found that the 15 psi filter bypass setting put the filter in bypass on a warm engine when the second stage was activated. Raising the filter bypass setting forced the filter to do what it designed to do. Filter. Preventing debris from circulating during high load, high rpm operation.    So next question is how did GM find this out? VLOM/lifter failures and a deep dive by Melling Corp.    Last question. Is it required? Look at it like this; a motor may be equipped with a rev limiter. But it only works if the set point in reached. That 22 psig setting only matters if the pressure differential across the filter media exceeds 15 psig during normal warm operation. Second stage kicks in around 3000-3500 rpm.    I can't answer your question because I don't know you and how you use the truck. But I think there is enough information here to let you decide for yourself. 😉
