4x4 Vs 4x2

is there at all a difference in life span of suspension when it comes to 4x4 vs 4x2? torsion bars vs coils? torsion bars vs coil overs? I was just curious, as i've had alot of recent arguments over which suspension lasts longer, to me i think they are about level, i've seen 4x2s going 40 through corn fields and i've seen 4x4s plowing over stumps into drainage ditches with no problems

No there's not. They both have their benefits, but in terms of longevity there isn't a case.

well, the 4x4 system is a whole other area of parts to break and problems to occur, but in these GM trucks the 4x4 systems are very good. i dont really trust the electronic 4wd, but i do really like just hitting a button. i have never ever had any 4x4 problems in any of my trucks. im suprised that my suburbans elec. 4x4 has never ever failed to perform in its 150,000 miles.

i wouldnt think so. mine are even cranked up and i havent had any issues yet. my odo says 115k, but ive had 34s for a good 50k miles so its a little low.

yes and no, i have these interesting questions pop into my head late at night and after a few beers...anyway i wasen't thinking about the 2wds with torsion bars...i'm talking half tons for the most part, a 4x4(torsion bars) vs a 4x2(coils) suspension...yes i know the 900s have what coil overs? but lets say 800s just to make this simple lol

ohh. well anyway i have my t bars cranked on my 01 about 1 and a half inches maybe a little more, and im afraid its wearing out the front end prematurely. for example, my 2003 suburban with 150k miles, just replaced the right tie rod everything else orig. my truck with about 78k miles, just had to replace BOTH tie rods 2 weeks ago, and im noticing a little bit of shake so im thinking ball joints are on their way out. my truck is also beaten on, driven hard and fast and taken offroad so i blame it more on that.

i guess the 4x4's will have a shorter life for the simple fact that they are going treated much rougher than a 2WD
