hey guys,

I go to start up my truck about 3 weeks ago on a cooler morning when it was about 40 out and i had this noise coming from under the hood for a few seconds, by the time i realized and could pop the hood it was gone.

Then this morning, temp was around 70, i used the remote start just to do it and heard it. I killed the motor, popped the hood and cranked her back up. It was coming from lower mid area of the engine. Once again about 10 seconds into it, it quit.

The only common denominator is it had rained bothe nights, but wasn't in the morning when i went to leave.

Truck is an 08 5.3L with 56k miles. Very well taken care of

Any help or ideas would be greatly appreciated! :)

wet belt?

That was my initial thought :) BUT...... In that case if I replaced the belt would that fix it? Belt looks to be in perfect condition, and when i rubbed my finger on it before i started it back up I didnt get any moisture on my finger???

Definitely moisture on the pulleys. Nothing to worry about.

:) OK. Gracias...... anything to put on them or do to make it stop? Sounds like shit while it is doing it

Sounds like the weather is creating the moisture in the mornings. Can you park inside at night to test the theory? Mine makes a little noise too when there is moisture in the mornings, but it goes away like yours does. I put it in the shit happens category and disregard it.

The ac belt probably needs to be replaced as it goes twice the distance of the larger belt because it is so small. I would never put anyting on belts that was to be used on older belts, you want to increase friction not decrease it. New EPDM belts will not show any cracks either so we cant use this measure any more to judge the condition of the belt.

I'd check the tensioner... make sure its still got plenty of spring tension.

If that's good, i'd pop the belt off and check all of the pulleys to make sure non feel like they're dragging.

And with over 50k miles... i'd probably just spend the $30 and toss a new belt on for good measure. It's not difficult, time consuming or expensive...

Edit: you can also try starting your truck with the serp belt off and the a/c belt on (obviously don't run it for longer than you need to). If the squeal is still there, it's the AC belt... If it's not there but comes back when you put the serp belt back on, then you know its not the AC belt.
