Please Help! Problems With 2007 Sliverado Cd Changer, Rsa, &

Hello all....

I bought a 2007 Silverado LTZ crew cab a few months back. I have a couple problems with it.

PROBLEM #1:

It seems that the in dash CD Changer does not work. I don't know if there is a CD stuck in it or what. I cannot load any CDs into it and when I try the eject button it makes some moving noises and give me a "Check CD" error. By the looks of things the display tells me there is a CD in # 1 slot. Can anyone tell me how to check to see if there is an actual CD stuck in it. How do I get into to the changer? or if you have any other ideas please let me know.

PROBLEM # 2:

My truck has an RSA (rear seat audio) unit in it. I cannot get this to work at all. It is like there is no power to it. No display and nothing happens when I hit the power button.

PROBLEM #3:

Sometimes when I jump in my truck and start it up the radio is not on (even though I left it on), also until I turn the radio power on my signal lights make no sound in the cab and my back up sensors are turned off. Once I hit the radio power button it all goes back to normal.

I do not know if the problems are related to one another or not. If anyone has any ideas let me know. Thanks.

Oh I have checked the applicable fuses and I believe they are all fine.

You do not say but it sounds like you have an aftermarket radio/HU.

1) Not sure about the the CD error issue but it sounds like something is in there. You will probably need to take the HU out and at least take the cover off to see if anything is in there.

2) If it is an aftermarket HU, it will not have the right interface for the GMLAN, unless it is a Rosen, and even if it is a Rosen you will not be able to use the RSE. You will need something like a PAC Audio OS-4 with GMRVD cable to breakout the RSE to interface with the HU properly.

3) All of the chimes and tones are made by the HU on your model year. Not sure though why they are not making a sound when the HU is "off". If it is a aftermarket that may be the answer.

I am willing to bet your steering wheel controls do not work also.

So the big question is- what kind of HU do you have?

Thanks for helping. I do have the factory radio / Cd Changer, no aftermarket at all.

My steering wheel controls do work just fine.

I have thought about trying to get into the changer but I do not know how to get to it. I think the plastic wood grain looking trim around the radio comes off but I did not want to break it.

I have check the fuses, and tried the old disconnect the battery for an hour trick, but nothing seems to work for any of my problems. I was able to pull the RSA out and disconnect and reconnect it but no luck either.... I really don't know where to go from here.....

Anyway, now that you know it is the factory radio what do you think??????

My second guess is that whoever had the truck before had a problem (or not) with that HU and put in an aftermarket. When he sold the truck he put the OEM back in and maybe did not reconnect everything. Just a guess though.

You can pull the woodgrain trim off by getting a small screw driver and prying it out from the side. I will seem like it is going to break but if you get close to the clips it should not. You can also get some plastic pry tools from Harbor Freight if you have one near. There are some youtube videos you can search for to remove it. I have a picture of mine removed in this thread

http://www.tahoeyukonforum.com/forum/showt...8910&page=4 if you want to go there and look at it already out and see where the clips are.

Ok so I took a look at your pic tonight. I took the trim off the dash and removed the radio. I plugged it back in just in case it was something stupid, but no luck, same thing. I then removed the radio took it in the house and opened it up. I found a dollar coin in it (loonie)! Can you believe that. It was jamming the changer up. I removed it and away it went, just like.

Now If I could get this back seat radio issue solved I would be set. Still no power to the unit? I have no idea why..... I would guess it uses the same fuse as the radio.... I might have to take it to the dealer for this one......

Anyway I just wanted to thank you for your help......

If you should have any ideas on the rsa let me know. Thanks again!

Funny about the dollar :chevy:, I bet the other owner had small kids. So far I have been batting 0 for 2 on this one so not so sure you should listen, but you might try calling or going by the dealer and asking them what they think the problem may be. Sometimes they will give you something to go on and sometimes not.

Do you have the Nav unit with four connectors on the back plus the two antenna connections?

No NAV unit, just a plain and simple radio interface that allows the back seat passengers to listen to the radio and or the cd with ear phones. I pulled it off the center console the other day. It has two plugs in the back. I unplugged them and then plugged them back in. No luck. Do you think it my be on a different fuse then the radio? That is all I can think of. I'll attach a pic of the RSA.....

you have pressed the power button on it right?

could be a burned out unit, I saw some on ebay for like $30

as far as the fuse, check the owners manual.. if you don't have it go to Chevy.com and click the FOR OWNERS link, you can download the manuals in PDF.

Did you check to see if that power port below the unit has power? I bet they share a power source. You could also take the RSE out and see if it has power to it. Switched power is usually solid red wire.

Good find old-chevy-dude, I did not know those manuals were there. If only they would put the maintenance manuals too!

Hey first thanks again for you help guys....

I have check the power port and it does have power.

Nothing in the manual refers to the RSA and its fuse just the radio.

I will look more closely into the fuse thing tomorrow.

ptwat - How do I go about finding out if its has power????? Do you have to put a meter on it or something like that?

Posted

You would need to get a cheap voltmeter (Radio Shack, Fry's or others). Or you could even use a 12 volt tail lamp with wires soldered to it or use a replacement socket and lamp from pep boys or other parts store.

Once you have the RSE/RSA out look for the metal part of the wire on the back of the connector to it and put the red voltmeter on it and the black lead of the voltmeter on a ground (a screw head into the chassis like at the bottom of the seat). The voltmeter should read around 12V to 14V if it is powered. Try it with the truck in ACC position. You can check all of the wires but power is probably solid red. If you have power and there is still no display (and you have tried all the knobs and buttons on the RSE) you probably have a dud.

Still have not tested the power...... but,

I can't seem to find any of the RSA's on ebay or anywhere. Can anyone point me in the right direction??????

Well finally borrowed a multimeter and tested the power to the RSA. Lot's of power there. I took the RSA apart and did not find any burn marks on the circuit boards. No luck getting it working looks like I am in the market for a new RSA unit.......

    • Very interesting thread. Definitely didn’t expect to see this kind of mileage out of that engine.
    • Just did an injector/HPFP replacement on Pepper at 192,400 miles; close enough to 200K, RIGHT? (If 200K is considered life end and to me it isn't). But hey, to each his own.    Have never run a catch can on this vehicle. Back side of every valve looked like a new valve spray painted semigloss black. Port walls looked 'neat' (all a normal result of passive EGR via VVT) Zero build up even in AFM cylinders. Just color. It uses no measurable oil and never has.    At 155,000 I put her on E-85 and a borescope of the cylinders at plug change showed very clean pistons and valve faces. The replaced injector tips looked new. (It was the pump piston seal that was leaking). Oh well, have six good backups.    Still gets 28 mpg on gas (highway average) and over 20 (highway) on alky. UOA's look good and runs as good now as it did when I bought it. Better in fact.    What improvement would a Catch Can provide this motor?     And given all this I expect that IF I installed one I'd see some water/gas/oil vapor accumulation. Byproducts of normal combustion.   Having said that, IF my motor used an appreciable amount of oil I'd consider it a useful 'crutch' until I had the situation corrected OR if bore polished, until I junked it or rebuilt it to stave off repeated plug fouling.    I'm not telling you what I THINK. But what its DONE.
    • Love the look. I'm a SCSB lover myself.    Two items. 1.) A spacer changes scrub radius but this also changes when we use wheels of different offsets. A little isn't a big deal. 2.) Steel wheels, alloy wheels all have different thickness. Same effect on the stud and lug nut as a spacer. When hub centric the wheel isn't supported by the stud. It's supported by the hub. The stud just keeps it all together.
    • I had a evap sol go bad a couple weeks ago. . I replaced it.  While watching live data at the time I saw I had some cylinder 1 misfires. No MIL but on live data I could see ~50 at startup and about 70 more after an hour a drive all on cyl 1.  I also noticed that the LTFT were -5% to -15% always.  And that bank 2 is always -3% richer than bank 1. Even across all driving modes, city, highway, etc it’s always 3% richer than bank 1. So I start with the misfire. Swapped coil, plug, and plug wires from 1 to 3. No follow. I got an Injector reseal kit, pulled the D/s injector rail, swapped #1 and #3 injectors, resealed them, reinstalled and retested.  The misfire followed to 3. So I ordered and replaced all 8 injectors, spark plugs, and plug wires. Also replaced the 1 time use fuel pipes under the intake manifold.  Injectors that were in the truck since new were  Part # 12668390.  I replaced them with # 12742701 Got from RockAuto. Pretty certain they’re genuine and the correct ones. I called a friend at a parts store who told me “the 12742701 were the correct superseded part # for the originals I was replacing”. So started truck after replacing all that and it’s running -15 - -30 LTFTs. I reset the fuel trims with GDS2 and drove it for a 60 miles trip each way. There have been no changes in the LTFTs.  I checked if the HPFP was leaking into the crankcase. I removed the pvc and watched the trims. No difference.  I checked the alcohol content and it was at 10%  I’m out of ideas here. Truck seems to run great. Just always rich on the fuel trims.  Anyone with any help or ideas would be greatly appreciated.  I ran an injector balance test just for the heck of it and it came back this. I’m confused.  I have gds2 and some other diag tools if anyone knows of anything I should test next.
