god i hope we are talking the gen 3 vortec 5.7...it would just be cheaper to beef up the 4.8 unless you fished the 5.7 out of a pond or somethen

I'd agree, if you're doing a gen II 350 sbc motor, you're flat out wasting your time. That would be a stupid swap. If we're talking about the ls1 Gen III engine, why not go with a 6.0l, you can make so much more power, easily and the swap is easy as no other.

sounds like everyone has a good handle on this, if you stick with the Gen III motor series (LS1 from a F or Y body) then it's not difficult (keep your Windage tray, oil pan and intake manifold)... but it would be way cheaper to just swap to a 6.0L

oo i just want to swap into an engine with more power. the 6.0 sounds good what would i need to buy for the engine and what could i use from the stock 4.8

or you could beef up the 4.8...they can be quite quick seeing as they rev up alot faster then its bigger siblings

not worth the time on a truck like his with oversized tires. I had a 4.8L that could whip up on some 5.3L trucks, track proven... but he's gonna need torque judging from his sig. pictures and that's something that is in short supply with the 4.8L

as for the swap, I've done several. If you have an automatic transmission it's simple, all you need is the new long block. you can reuse all accessories, wiring harness etc. Your transmission might not last long, but it can be rebuilt to handle a stock 6.0L just fine.
