Can someone explain to me how to change a fuel pump on a '63 305 V-6? Is there a rod that has to be held up to insert the pump arm? like on a Chevy.

thats the motor with the spark plugs on the intake side of the head. pull the coil wire off take out the # 1 spark plug turn over the engine while your finger is covering the hole untill you feel the compression stroke. line up the timming mark on tdc. now you can pull the fuel pump. yes there is a push rod that needs to be held up while installing the pump.

lots of techniques work. Heavy grease works, so does a bit of gasket sealer. There is a technique that uses a longer bolt to hold the push rod too, I have never used it though. a dab of permatex works great.

Well after all this time got the pump installed and running great. Oh, by the way there is no pump rod,the pump arm works off of an eccentric on the cam.
