Hey there i have a 2004 sierra slt 1500 crew cab Z71 with 142,000kms on it and since i bought it i have had a grinding noise in the front end when it is in 4 hi. It switches in and out of 4 wheel drive fine and there is not a sound in 2 wheel drive but when i switch to 4 hi when driving in snow and icy conditions there is a humming sound that goes with the rpms of the engine and when i turn to the left or the right i get a grinding sound and more so when i turn to the left. I had the front diff done in march of this year and still the same and i just changed both front wheel bearings and still the same and just brought it to a GM dealer and got them to check it out and i got charged $1100 and still the same noise and the technician tells me it is normal and i say it isn't. Am i wrong? he said i could take any GM pick up truck with the auto transfer case meaning it has auto 4wd as well as 4hi and 4lo and they would all make the same noise in 4hi. If this was the case GM wouldn't sell too many trucks i would think. Can you please point me in the right direction so i can stop wasting money and get it fixed properly? My dad has the same truck and he says his is not like that at all and a friend of mine has an 08 silverado and he says the same that there is no noise so i the technician telling me the truch or not? would love some feedback.

Actually, mine does the same thing yours does. I've heard from many guys that theirs makes the same noise, and as long as you don't have anything showing on the DIC, I'd say you're good to go.
