2008 Trans Fluid Change

I got a quick question. I am changing the transmission fluid on my brother's '08 silverado. It's a 2 wheel Drive with automotaic and the 4.3L V-6. I have all the bolts out of the pan but am having problems to get it to drop down and out of the way. Is there anything that needs to be taken off to make this happen or do I just need to wiggle and shake it out? Thanks.

Loosen the transmission tailshaft mount and raise the rear of the trans until the pan clears. Be very careful removing the pan. There are things you can fark up getting the pan loose if you don't have the right amount of clearance

I had a tough time on my 05. I took the mounts to the exhaust off and and pulled down on it while another guy slipped the pan out.

If the V6 is the same as the V8, remove the shifter linkage bracket on the side of the transmission and that should give you enough room to drop the pan without having to remove/loosen anything else. That's what I did when I changed mine and had no problems.

Will it be hard to get the shift linkage back on? I thought above removing it but wasn't sure. Also, he doesn't have the owners manual with him but how far does the rear axle get filled to? Does the fluid go just under the hole or does it need to be a certain amount down from the fill hole? Thanks guys. Not exactly what I thought I would be doing on Thanksgiving. lol Also, Happy Thanksgiving!

Will it be hard to get the shift linkage back on?

On my 4.3L '03, I only remove one of the torx bolts (the most easily accessible) for linkage, and loosen the other. This should allow you to swivel linkage out of the way and drop pan. They are not that difficult to re-install, but one of them is awkward to reach.

Does the fluid go just under the hole or does it need to be a certain amount down from the fill hole?

On my '03 1500, the rear synthetic oil level should be 5/8" to 1-5/8" below fill-plug opening.

Okay, I got the change done. I got one of the bolts out on the shift bracket and was able to move it enough to get the pan to drop! Some fuzz on the magnet but nothing big. I got the filter replaced and everything put back together. Thanks again for the help!
