I'm going to change the oil in my transfer case this weekend and have a quick question. Why is it recommended to change the plugs? Thanks in advance.

Because they're made out of very soft aluminum, and are tapered plus there heads will strip easily. I was just gentle with mine, stuck some pipe tape on em and put em' back in, no problems. Just make sure you can actually loosen the top bolt before you loosen the bottom or you'll have to take your vss out to put the fluid in.

steel and magnesium makes for bad galvanic corrosion. That's why many have cup washers on the case bolts to keep the steel and mag away from each other.
