I am still going with "not built like they used to be" you could never replace a '59 with an '09. Cars and Trucks back then had alot more character, and style....

You aren't the same person who complains about sheetmetal getting thinner are you Kev?

 

Besides, if I had my choice of fins or plastic... I would choose fins everytime. I liked the long and low cars.... LEAD SLED!

well idk how thick the metal was but im sure it was thicker then the trucks these days! and becasue its a 55 bel air.

I meant about the GMT800 and GMT900 metal thickness not the Belair (the Belair was a '59 btw.)

I agree with you fully. I was just awestruck with how bad the Bel Air was crushed. If given the choice, I would take a '57 Chevy over many cars that are out today. You can't beat an old car....except in safety obviously.

One major factor was the entire body of the Bel Air was a rusted bucket.

 

While I agree with you on that...50 year old car is bound to have some structural integrity degradation...They didn't have crumple zones, air bags, steering columns that wouldn't impale you, shoulder straps, and 1,100 other things we can't even see. I'd put money on a brand new '59 still getting crushed against the '09. Cars today are simply better. They just don't look as cool
