Saw my first SS truck today

On my way back from the trade show today, nearly back home, I was in the left lane passing a gaggle of semi's, and lo-and-behold what do I see trapped behind them in the right lane, but a brand new black Silverado SS!!

Std MI plate, not the typical manuf's plate we have here either, and man did it look awesome on the highway!  Here's the interesting part - and I swear I'm not making this up, nor was I seeing things (whiteline fever, or something), but it looked completely std '03 SS, except for 2 items:  1)  it had a "GMC" logo on the right side of the tailgate, and 2) it had the older model tail lites, with the yellow turn signal indicators.

So, of course when I see this, I'm thinking, maybe I've really stumbled onto something - maybe I'll just shadow him for about 50 miles to get a good eye full.  I did finally pull around and in front cause I wanted to see what it looked like, and it was all std '03 chevrolet, not GMC, but full SS mono paint, etc as we've seen before.  My only guess was it was a test mule - the only indication that it was maybe a GM fleet test vehicle was some numbers on the lower left of the back window.  The driver never looked at me even though I was rubber-necking pretty good.

I really like the monochrome treatment, and the wheels were great - it also had a nifty tailgate protector as well.  :thumb:

Saw a few de-badged Mountaineers and a Land Rover out in Vegas last week.  They had peeled the emblems off, and I'm looking over and mouthing, "Gee, I wonder what that is".  Not sure what they were up to, but they had antennas on them and some numbering as well.

Now that we're talking other vehicles, I also saw my first Lincoln Blackwood on the road this week.  Going the opposite way on the highway, but looked OK. I think they camcelled it, didn't they?

Speaking of Mercury, also saw a car carrier unloading a new Marauder (sp) the other day.

Definite advantages living in the Detroit area for this type of thing!!

The origional SS's started life as GMC's.
