Remote Start

I have a 2003 Sierra that is the Base trim (just slightly above the WT), it does not have the security ignition key with the chip in it, any key from walmart or lowes works fine with no programming.

 

I went to a local stereo shop today to get a price on a remote start and was told that I still need the bypass module anyway even if the key has NO chip in it, is this true?

 

The guy said that the truck would start without the bypass but would shut right back off, is he wrong?

There is no chip on the key, but it has a security system. It should be inside the lock cylinder. Still have to bypass that system with a remote start.

I did it to mine, you need a ohm meter and go to radioshack and tell em' you want some resistors that can be put in series or parallel to get you specific resistance. I had a box of resistors, so I used trail and error with the ohm meter and putting resisitors together. Pretty easy, although it may sound confusing.
