09 5.3 Temp Question

Just bought an 09 Tahoe LTZ, yesterday, with 5.3 engine. My wife drove it home from the dealer and drove it to work today. She loves it, it is a very nice truck. I test drove it before we bought it but had not noticed everything such as what temp it was running. Too busy trying to take in everything else as these things are loaded.

 

I drove it tonight after testing the remote start and letting it warm up a few minutes. Went just 2 1/2 miles down the road to the gas station and back, beerrun. Anyway, I noticed that the temp guage on the dash was reading at what looked like 210 to me, it's the only mark between cold and hot basically. Is this where they are supposed to run?

 

I asked my wife what temp it was running when she drove it and she said 79. Umm........that's the temp she set the driver's side for.

 

My old Tahoe and Yukon ran at 195 and if not, I knew something was wrong. Is anything wrong? The vehicle has 32,000 miles on it and looks like new. Tomorrow, I was planning a 5 hour roadtrip to Des Moines from northern IL and to return on Sunday. Do I need to worry about this thing or is this normal? Thanks guys, alittle nervous here.

All is well. They run about 205 -210 on the gauge. The gauge can be off a little

 

As long as it doesn't start climbing you're good to go

Yeah that sounds about right to me. mine runs a little to the left of the middle notch in the winter and to the right of the notch in the summer.

 

I think that yours is fine.

Ya your good in the summer time if you go up some good grades for awhile it will get a little hotter than 210-215 or so and thats about as high as I ever seen one go.

My 08 Tahoe and 10 Silverado both run right at 210. its normal.

I think he may be saying she had her HVAC set to 79

Mine runs at 210 all the time.It did go up to about 220 sitting at a idle for a while .It kinda scared mr then the fans kicked on and it came right down to 210.I am still not sold on these dual fans yet.
