Denali Hid Problem

Recently installed DDM's HID kit in my Denali using the factory projector lenses and they seemed to work modestly for about a year. Last week the passenger side HID went out and I discovered that the reason was water getting into the ballast. I replaced the ballast with a new one AND a new HID bulb that I tested on another vehicle and worked fine, but it still didnt work on the Denali. I checked the fuse under the hood box for passenger low beam and it was not blown. The weird thing is that when I put a regular halogen bulb in the connection it works fine, but not the HID kit. Is there any other fuse location I am not aware of that the passenger side wont run the HID kit but runs the halogen bulb fine?? Any help would be appreciated! Thanks.

Turn your harness upside down where the power from oem harness comes in... Thats what i had to do with my ddm setup.

x2 reverse polarity. That should do it, if not check your ballast and/or bulb.

If flipping didn't work, would swap bulbs and ballasts from side to side, to eliminate all doubts of the ballast/bulbs themselves

Thanks to all that replied, as flipping the connector opposite of the drivers side connector worked. Although, the original problem was that the ballast on the pass side was full of water. I opened it up and tried to dry it but even when it was dry it still blew my HLP/R fuse when I turned on the lights.

 

I would probably not buy another DDM HID kit product as they seem to be quite cheaply made and Ive noticed the HID quality of the bulb brightness and output is not as bright as other HID bulbs. I also noticed fitment issues of the bulb itself into the housings. Get what you pay for I guess!

Which DDM kit did you use? I have had the 55w slim ballast kit for almost over 6 months with no problems. They have a lifetime warranty on the bulbs and ballasts. Were you able to get them to replace them?

No I have the 35W regular sized ballasts with 5k. I figured if I tried to return it they would argue It was my fault on the mounting location where it was allowed to get wet. The ballast had at least a 1/2 cup of water in it. I can try and return it if you think they will replace it!?

They just replaced a ballast for me that i had on my fogs... Went out after about a year or so... All i did was mail it to them and they mailed me back a new one no charge. Email them first and explain what happened , they will give u a case # and mail it back.

 

I have the 55 watt 6k kit in my fogs and lows and its awesome!

Yeah thanks Silvy, thats what I did, just called them and they sent me an email with an Auth # and shipping info. Im going to box it up tonight and send it, should only cost me $5 or so. They did say that they will test it when they receive it and if it turns out to be faulty they will return a new one to me. Im just wondering if they will give me crap about it being water damaged.

I have no experience with DDM , however when I used to sell HIDs, if my memory serves me correctly, the ballasts were potted (Filled with a dielectric resin) and sealed. They're made to be mounted in the front end of a vehicle, I cant imagine water damage being sited as a warranty void, unless of course the only way for them to be permeated by water is by having the ballast itself opened up. Otherwise it sounds like either a potting/seal malfunction. Hell I ran a set of china-made mass-produced 35W ballasts in my S10 for ~2.5 years without issue, and they were mounted in front of the wall the radiator is mounted on, behind the front directionals where they just got drenched regularly.

I'm running the DDM 35W apexcone ballasts, and I haven't had any trouble, but hat would be a good idea about having the sealed up.

 

Do you guys think it would be worth doing, and risk messing up the factory seal on the case?
