Need To Remove Or Hide Swirl Marks

Recommended Posts

HI guys, New to the forum. I recently bought a red 05 and it looks good, but in direct sunlight or in a lighted garage, it looks like it was polished with sand. Swirls and streaks everywhere. No deep scratches, just swirls. Whats the best way to hide them or buff them out?

Nice truck

I have found this site to be very helpful

I use meguires M105 to remove scratches and swirls. This stuff works great, I am on the forums at autogeek and people swear by it so I had to try it. It does work well and pretty reasonable for a small bottle.

I'll be joining you in your quest on getting swirl marks out of the paint. I made the MISTAKE of taking my truck to a local "hand wash" car wash and it looks like they washed & dried it with sand paper

It was my fault for being lazy. That said I use Adam's polishes and they have a scratch and swirl remover that works great. I've also heard great things about meguires M105 and scratch - X. Good luck and post pics.

Also when drying your truck invest in some good quality waffle weave towels that wont scratch the surface.

i also use Autogeek and use a Porter Cable 7424XP Random Orbital Buffer. I use Meguiars 105 for the harsh stuff, on an orange LCC pad, (including headlight lenses) and Meguiars 205 as a finish polish on a white LCC pad. Check out Autogeek, youll become addicted! But youll be addicted with the best!

Went to Wal-Mart and got some Meguiars Ultimate Compound. This stuff works really good. The light swirls are gone. You can still see some of the deeper swirls and scratches. The problem I was having is that my truck looked like someone waxed the truck with a buffer and didnt remove it all. It was like a light swirly haze was left on the paint. This stuff took care of all of that. I may try the SwirlX stuff next. Iwas looking for SwirlX but I couldnt find it at the store I was at. Im gonna look at Advance next time Im there.

The paint on my truck is still awesome but I have a black 93 camaro and it was full of swirl marks and looked like crap. My fix was a Porter Cable 7424 polisher, lake country foam pads and Wolfgang 3.0 swirl remover. I am no pro detailer by any means but even after the first pass on the hood I stood back in awe. I used an orange pad with the wolfgang polish and used a full bottle (buy 2 for the truck just to be safe, I most likely used too much!) For the final waxing I just used some mother's caranuba with a white pad on the polisher. Microfiber towels work well for the buffing. This was the first time I ever used any kind of polisher and I will never go back to polishing by hand. Some of the deeper scratches never came out but definitly less noticable. In your case with red I would expect even better results!

The junkman is painless to watch and you learn how to prepare your truck/car, the use of the PC and the final protection.

If you do not use a two bucket wash the correction will be good for awhile then swirls will be back.
