Gmos-lan-01

Hi I'm new to the forum and bought a new 2010 Silverado work truck in August. My truck only came with an AM/FM stereo. I bought an aftermarket JVC CD stereo and had the Geek Squad at Best Buy install it. They used the GMOS-LAN-01 harness for the chimes. The first harness I had to replace because the chime speaker would make a loud pulsating rrrrt! rrrt! noise every once in a while. Now for the past month the chime speaker makes a whining noise for quite a while after I turn my truck off. Sometimes the noise is going on in the morning even before I start my truck. Is it normal for the GMOS-LAN-01 to make noises by itself even when my truck is turned off, or did I get a second defective unit that I'll have to go back and get replaced?

Should I go back to get a replacemet? Or just not worry about it? The noise does not happen when I turn on my truck, but I'm kind of worried that one day the noise will kill my battery.

Has anyone else had this problem with the GMOS-LAN-01 harness??

I would take it back and have them replace it. It should not make any noise like that.... Did they actually use the GMOS-LAN-01 or the Scocshe version of it. My experience with the Scoche GMLAN21SR? is it is junk, I had to replace two of them in my truck.

Also, does your work truck have OnStar? If not the GMOS-LAN-01 may not be the right module....

Thanks for the reply. My truck does not have Onstar. The reciept does not give me the best description of what I have so I am definately going to go back and show them what wrong. Hopefully the third times the charm.

Hopefully I have figured this out. After replacing the harness a third time Best Buy finally looked up in their application manual that the Scosche GM21SR harness probably keeps going bad because it is made for OnStar and Bose. My truck has neither. So they refunded the $150 for the harness, reinstalled my factory AM/FM radio, and told me to find a scosche GM22SR harness made for No OnStar/No Bose. Of course they don't carry that model. I have the new harness and Best Buy is going to install it next week. This better work because I hate not having a CD player and the JVC unit sounded so much better.

When did it become so hard just to add an aftermarket radio to a vehicle? If I knew it was going to be such a hassle I would have just paid the $700 for the factory CD player, or paid the extra $3000 for the truck on the lot with a CD player. Then I would have XM, factory cruise, a V8, and a longbed.
