Why Did I Have To Get Moog?

So I did a lot of reading here and went ahead and did my own inner tie rod end. I went down to Advance and got an inner and outer tie rod and I asked to check out there pieces that were in stock. There was TRW and OE solutions. The OE solutions only came with a 12 month warranty and was 29 bucks. The TRW was $45 and the Moogs were 50$. The TRW's also had a lifetime warranty the same as the Moogs.

Anyway, I saw no real difference in thickness between the Moogs and stock. The Moogs inner tie rod I think might have been longer, because I couldnt get the outer all the way down and I had to cut about a 1/4 of inch of threads off so I could screw the outer down to where it was the same length as the stock ones. I guess I just want to know what I just spent my money on. So either the inner was slightly longer or the outer was slightly shorter on the inside? Anyway, had the truck aligned and that was that, truck drives straight the steering wheel is straight.

oem would probably be twice as much as moog... and generally the cheap "oe solutions" or house brands you're lucky if they last the ride home from what ive seen

i've been using moog's products for years... i think is the closest quality to oem you can get but at a much cheaper price! definitely moog is the way to go if you dont want to spend tons of money in buying oem! never had problems with it, in different brands, ford, chevy and jeep.

There are only a couple companies that make this stuff anymore. MOOG used to be a step above but with their reputation cemented I strongly doubt they are maintaining that "step above" these days, I know on some of the car forums I frequent they are falling out of favor due to some problems. I probably would have gone ahead and done TRW OR you could find a dealer with friendly pricing. Dealer "list" price is generally 100% markup and there are places who will sell cheaper.

I decided to go ahead and look up an AC Delco inner rod end on www.rockauto.com and it was only $35.

Sorry for the bad news BUT a lot of auto parts plces charge absurd markup and a LOT of parts are sold on old reputations that may no longer be deserved.

My local shop won't use Moog anymore and switched to AC Delco. They said they had problems with Moog parts after Moog was sold to a different supplier and as they warranty their work they were fixing stuff for free as the Moog componets were not holding up.

I just felt that it was some food for thought, There was no huge difference in what I took off and what I put back on, I thought they were going to be thicker or you open the box and you get blinded by light from heaven.. I wish I had more time to have looked around at other parts. Oh well I will do better next time. They were just not exact fit, etc. someone with out some mechanical experience might not have been able to put there truck back together.
