Any Major Things To Know About A 2003 2wd Suburban

my HR manager just bought a 2003 Burb with 87,000 miles over the weekend.. she has expanded her collective to 4 children with 1 more on the way and needed to upgrade her previous vehicle.

 

 

neither she or her husband are very vehicle or mechanically savvy, I gave them some basics to look for during the purchase process and they seemed to get a pretty good deal.

 

are there any major mechanical issues for this series Burb that I can enlighten them about?

 

the vehicle doesn't appear to have any leaks, the ride seems smooth, brakes are firm, motor idles smooth and accelerates nicely. I've advised her to change all the fluids, (oil, coolant, power steering, brake, rear end, transmission, etc) seeing as there is no record or indication of whether this stuff was done within the recommended schedules in the owner manual.

 

 

so any one know of any major things to look out for?

1500 or 2500?

 

1500 = Rear brake rotor backing plates and parking brakes were known for issues in rust belt states.

 

Both 1500 or 2500 could possibly need some front end work and most likely an alignment.

 

Other than that, at that mileage, I'd be sure to change the diffs, transmission, transfer case (if equipped), power steering and brake fluids. Coolant is good till 100,000. Air and fuel filters would get changed also, unless new. Check

all belts and hoses, probably needs the belts.

it's a 1500.

 

we are in Southern CA so probably no issue with rust.. but I will pass on the info.. I already recommended the fluid changes..

If you're not in the rust belt, you're probably good to go in most all of the brake and chassis issues out there.
