Squeakin Fan

The fan in my 99 gets to sqeaking really loud every once in a while. I usually have the fan on low all the time. When it starts squeaking, I usually just turn it up to 3 or 4 and then back down again, and the noise goes away (or way down). But, lately sometimes that doesn't even work.

 

Anyone else encountered this problem? It sure sounds like the fan, so I'm thinking that it means replacing the blower motor. It *looks* like the blower motor is right at the feet of the passenger (kickable), but looking in the manual, it doesn't seem like it's all that easy to get out of there. Am I missing something?

i haven't had the squeaking issue but i did have to replace the blower motor regulator in my friends 99, you are correct on the location of the blower. for that regulator i didn't have to remove the blower but it doesn't look too bad as long as you can bend in weird ways to be able to work down there. good luck

It's been my experience that the brushes in the motor can make such a noise when the get low, maybe because there is less spring pressure on them. I have never seen bearings in a blower motor, only bushings- but they don't seem to cause a squeak type noise.
