Tire Prices

I went to look at buying some tires today and HOLY CRAP have they went up in price!! My Nittos that I bought 3 years ago are now @ $50 higher PER TIRE. And my buddy bought some Baja ATZ's a year ago and now they are $70 higher per tire. My tire guy blamed it on the oil and shit going on in Egypt driving prices up. I didn't know that rubber had such a close correlation with oil. He told me that rubber prices went up at the end of 2010 and were suppose to go up in January or February of this year. It is now February 4 and it hasn't hit yet. He believes rubber will go up 5-10%. So, if you need tires you need to get them now before they go up in the next few weeks. Just something for you guys to talk about. I haven't seen/looked for anything to back this up, but maybe you have???

To add on to your though...When checking out tire prices, make sure you know what load range you are looking at. I am about to get some BFG a/t's from Discount Tire and they list load range E for 06 2wd trucks and load range C for 4x4's. I upgraded to 265/70/17's from 245/70 tires last time, which is why I thought to price them under a 4x4. The load range E and C tires differ by about $35/tire. I'm glad I noticed before I paid a lot more and got a rougher ride. I don't need E load tires.

Crude does effect the price of tires on many levels: ingredients, shipping to distib's, distrib's shipping to you, and so forth. Also though, the US put a new tariff on imported tires from China I think(or everywhere, someone here knows I'm sure) that caused them to go up about 15 to 20%, from what my tire guy told me. 12 years ago when I was in high school, I could take $400 and and my 97 Z71 to my local tire shop and buy the baddest set of tires and still have a little change in my pocket. The tires I used to really like were made by a company called Chapparal, the were Steel Belted Radials. Thet had the same white letters as the BFG's and a similar tread pattern. Dont know where they went but I miss them. There have been a couple newer variations of the same tire but I know that at least 2 of them suck!

Hell it seems like any time crude goes up, there is a price hike on anything. Pineland, Im with you. I remember getting a set of 4 name brand, load range E tires for my 96 3/4 ton and payed about $350. I just spent $750 for a set of C range 32" tires for an s10. Of course, when I was in HS I could have filled that 3/4 ton with a $20 bill and had enough left to buy a Dr. Pepper. I spent $60 to fill up my Z71 today.

I found that out on Saturday. 265/70/17 "C" BFG AT's with repair/replacement certificates, lifetime rotate & balance, and 40K prorate warrenty for a total price of $1106 at Discount Tire. My truck is riding much better than it did on my old BFG Longtrail radials though.

Holy crap dude you paid a shit ton of money!!! My 285/75/16 Bighorns were 178 a piece and that includes free balancing and rotation!!! The warranty is kinda pointless, because the BFG AT's pretty much all last to 50K+ miles

I should clarify the price I paid...The price for the tires, installation, and lifetime rotate and balance was $992 (FL 7% sales tax included). I added replacement certificates for $26.50x4 incase I get a flat or shred one on a trail. I also got a $50 rebate, so the final price is 1056. That price destroys what everybody else wants for tires around here. Goodyear Duratracs were even higher. I'd also never consider retread tires. I'd rather save longer for something I know is new and warrenty/store backed.
