Replacing Seats In Sierra?

Recommended Posts

Basically, long story short the current seats in my truck don't support my back very well (and after a recent back injury at work) I need to have seats with adjustable lumbar, and more precise adjustment (angle and forward/backward position), much like the newer Sierras... But I don't know if I could put a newer Sierra seat in my '03 Sierra, or where I could buy them from? (and how hard it would be to wire it up and every thing)

All the way up to 07 (classic) truck seats will bolt in. You can also use seats from up to 06 Yukon, Denali, Suburban, Escalade, etc.

I'm a new sierra seat basher. Much preferred the ones in my 03 Silverado.

Sounds cheesy but I would just bring some pillows or cushions for what you have now.

I hear you with the back though. Mine has been dodgey(pun intended) For a few years but fortunately driving not to bad. Computing el sucko.

Have you tried one of those gelpacs you put in the refrig and then recline on your back on?

Awesome. Best 40 I spent for my back. I found the heated seats 'felt' great but the heat led to swelling and more pain, The cool actually works as a nat anti inflamatory and gives relief, even thought the heat ;feels; better....

Really? I went browsing new Sierras, just for the fun of it, and the new seats were better for my back (well, the 10 minutes I was sitting in it at least)

Hmm... Maybe I'll try some pillows, couldn't hurt to spend less / none

Thanks so far guys.

I have had two back surgeries, both were to fuse it. I have a 2010 with cloth seats, and have no problem with them. My buddy has an 05, and the seats cause me a lot of discomfort. Try to get the dealer to let you take a truck for a few hours, some dealers do that now.

I had a 99 GMT 800 with the lumbar adjustable seats. They were way better, more support, More comfort, and larger than my 2008 LTZ full banana seats. Find a good set from a GMT 800, you'll be better off by a long shot, IMO.

I prefer the seats in my '08 over the '99. Goes to show how different we're shaped. The '99 were SLT/leather, vs SLE/cloth now. Go figure...

Regardless, find a set from a GMT800 that you like.

Robert,

The chevy LTZ seats in the GMT900 is a different seat than the LT seat. There's different padding and maybe more.

I prefer the cloth as well. I did get leather in my 2008, because it's 4x4 and my 99 cloth seats got so full of dust, I couldn't get it out.

I put neoprene covers over mine (cover king). Not so fond of how they trap heat in the summer though. With 3 kids and Golden, not a bad option overall. Very durable and easy to clean. If I bought a brand new truck tomorrow, it would have the trim (SLE) and same seats (prefer front split "bench"), but I'm not sure if I'd try for GM leather, aftermarket leather, or go back with neoprene. The OEM cloth is probably fine, but I'm too afraid of ruining it. I don't think there's any such thing as a "best" answer... just better/worse options for how we use our trucks. I use mine as a truck, but try to keep it "like new" to the extent that I can. Good to have options!

I like using covers as they can be removed and washed.

Are the CoverKing's machine washable?

I looked into the Wet Okale covers and went to their store in Newport Beach. They insisted that the covers were not to be washed. So, I passed on them. I think now they say they can be hand washed.

I don't think the CK's are designed to be machine washed, since they have a foam pad on the back, but I'm not sure. Since they're "waterproof" on the front face, I'll probably wash them in place using a shampoo adapter on the floor cleaner if/when the need comes. I've had them a little over a year now, and a dry vacuum gets everything except spills. A wet towel and soapy water gets the liquid. I got grease on them twice, and used degreaser, water and a towel. Came right off, and couldn't tell it ever happened once dry. Not saying they're immune to stain, but I haven't hurt mine yet.

Edit: Just checked CK's info, and they say "hand wash / air dry" on the neoprene. Makes sense, but I bet a gentle cycle on a machine would do the same.
