I'm just throwing out this as a feeler for now to see if there is anything I should look for or avoid. Currently I have a 2wd ex cab 6.5 bed gmt900 1/2 ton, I'm looking to upgrade to a 4wd cc long bed (min 6.5) 2500 duramax/allison. Now to give you a little back ground The truck is no longer a dd so it's primary use will be towing/ hauling and short trips into town so I'd like to get something with a little more umph for the towing and hauling so i'm not concerned with what i'm pulling. Now what I'm towing my 1500 could pull and does but I'd rather not strain the drivetrain and let the duramax pull with no issues. With that being said is there anything I should look for or avoid when getting this truck? it will not be new I'm planning on buying used and the earliest this will happen is in about a year once my truck is paid off, possibly longer. I'm just starting to research this now.

Thanks,

Chris

How short are the short trips you mentioned? The reason I ask is because I've heard that short trips aren't good for a diesel. You might also consider a 6.2L gasser on the HD platform.
