Chevy Venture Van Oil

We bought a 2002 Chevy venture Van with the 3.4L V6. it has 77,000 miles. It was an older couple that we bought it from and he replaced the oil every 3,000 miles with conventional oil. I was wondering if I could still put synthetic or should i go with a blend type oil.

We had an 02 Venture and loved it. It had 130k on it when we traded it. You can switch it over to synthetic or stick with conventional or blend.

Just keep an eye on your coolant level. Ours had the intake gasket leak and was covered under warranty. The 3.4's were famous for having the intake gaskets leak allowing coolant into the engine. Not to scare you but the reason we got rid of it was because on my used oil analysis I did annually it showed coolant in the oil so instead of soaking more money into the van at that mileage we just opted to trade it in on a GMC Acadia.

Like I said it was a great van, got 24mpg fully loaded on our trips to Florida, 1200 miles round trip.

We Love it so far. Thanks for the heads up. What would you recommend for the oil? conventional, synthetic or blend

If you are going to stay with 4k mile oil changes then conventional would be the way to go. If you want to move it up to 7k then I would go with a synthetic. That little engine is a hard worker for sure. Oh and if you can, change your transmission filter and fluid. That would be something I would do as well if I just bought it. It can use the new dexron VI fluid.
