Fall harvest is churning right along

Well here in NWIL we've been going full throttle ahead on harvest since the end of September. Almost done with beans, switched over to corn last Friday and have been going in that. While most farmers have been having a very tough year, we have been very very fortunate and been one of the few with great yields in both corn and beans. Still have about two weeks of harvest left, provided everything goes great (does that ever happen?).

Looks good! As a farmer/son of a farmer/now a network admin I know how the farming industry goes. Its always great when you have that much that you have to burn into the night cutting

We recently starting getting our sugar cane crop harvested. Started the last 2 weeks of September and won't be finished until the first week of Jan or last week of december....... Only 1 day off during that time... Christmas lol.

Glad someone got to cut beans that were worth getting the combine out for. We ended up losing quite a bit to hail. Corn was ok to say the least. Havent started hacking at the milo yet. That might come middle of the week or saturday. Did you have any milo?? In that picture where you were next to pull on the scale, is your Case a dual rear or not? If it is, how do you get it on the scale without 2 wheels being on solid ground?

Nope, no milo here, as a matter of fact I've never even seen a field of it in my life. I hear its nasty stuff. Overall our beans were the best we've ever raised here, our average is about 60bpa this year, just amazing since by looking at them we were hoping for 45. You could also probably tell in the corn picking pictures, but it was lightly raining while we were picking Saturday, we kept going but it wasn't working the best.

Here are a few pictures of our two Magnums and a couple of the wagons we haul with. We have three gravity wagons that haul 350-450 bushels each, the two in the pictures are the biggest two. No duals on the tractors, no worries about width on the tractor part. The EZ Flow wagon (here) is a bit of a tight fit on the scale, have about 6-12" play room, not a whole lot.

Here are the two Magnums and the two biggest wagons during beans.

Sitting in the cab waiting for one wagon to get topped off with corn so I can take off to town with a full load.

Sweet pictures. Tis that time of the year, rush home from work and try to get the lawns done at home and Granny's before the sun goes down. Just interested to see what type of winter we're going to have here in OH.

Glad to hear about the yeilds. My parents justs finished up the bean crop today in SW MN averaged about 50 bpa (alot better than waht they were guessing). Haven't started the corn yet still too high moisture content, neighbor tried some and it was around 30 %. JP what do you guys get for corn yeild in your neck of the woods?

Our corn has been great as well. The yield of the corn in the pictures was 185bpa, of the other fields we've done its gone 190-200+. In an average year we usually get a farmwide average of 160-170. Corn was coming out at 15-16% over the weekend, pretty low, wish it was about 20% to hold down the shatter loss some.

We've been very very fortunate this year. Down here around school there have been some fields where the corn has been coming out at 60bpa, on ground that gives 175 on a bad year. Beans have had some fields with moisture percent higher than yield.

Not around here, I'd say 50-60% still gets hauled with tractor and wagon.

I wish I could say the same, but this year is going to be very rough for us. Crop Insurance appraiser came by last week. We have 70 acres of Tobacco and 180 acres of Cotton that we are going to have to destroy. ??? :angry:

alright, I sort of have a question, may be stupid, but I'm sort of agri-ignorant.

My brother went harvesting for a summer one year as a job, and his main job was driving the grain trucks(tractor/trailer, like a 85% semi I think, you proabbly know what I mean)

I now know how explosive grain can be, is that some of the stuff you guys mess with? Does it scare you or have you gotten "used" to it?

Remember the silo that explosed in kansas a few years ago? he was there a week before it happened.....

geez i have been driving truck (10 wheeler) in wheat and corn for the past 5 years and yet to have an explosion occur (besdies a poolry tuned 392 gas engine backfiring). There was a silo collapse last year about 20 miles from here but it was due to structural failuer and not explosion.
