Have a 2007 2500HD 6.0L Classic with 300 horsepower. The 2007 2500HD 6.0L with new body style has 360 horsepower. What changes were made to the 6.0 Liter to get the extra 60 horsepower?

The 2007 new body 6.0 LY6 motor got a Gen IV block, based off the LS2, LS6, etc. The 07 classic LQ4 is Gen III based. The LY6 also uses higher flowing cylinder heads, has larger valves for more airflow and horsepower and also gained variable valve timing. It also got a new engine control module.

So....we kinda got the shitty end of the deal. We could rent a newer pick-up and do an engine swap overnight. I was debating buying the LY6 heads and bolting them on my LQ4. I didn't relize there was a 60 HP difference. I thought it was more like 25. Any word on the tranny. Mine has the 4l80e. Did that change much?

The 4L80E was dropped for the new body trucks. It was replaced by the six speed 6L90.

in my eyes i would rather have the newer engine with the older tranny, i dont like that 6 speed. at my work we have a fleet of chevy 3/4 tons. about 30 trucks...half of them are 05-07 classics the other half 08-09's. IMO the older ones are a better work truck. some of the older ones we got have 300+ kms on them still going strong. these trucks have a hard life too. the newer ones, half of those are plagued with slipping trannies. the 6 speed doesnt compete with the 4l80e in the toughness department. the highest mileage NBS is about 150k kms on it, they seem bagged right out compared to the older style ones with double the mileage.
