I recently had a no start problem caused by a worn out distributor gear. th truck has 195k so I went ahead and replaced the distributor and coil. I installed the distributor with the rotor tip pointing toward the timing mark while #1 cylinder is at TDC as the manual states. The problem I'm having is that the plug fires once every couple engine revolutions. I tryed to start it and it will barely run. My qestion is what am I missing? oh, and I also double checked all connections and the only code I get says camshaft and CKP correlation or something like that.

Thanks!

This is either a result of the distributor gear being worn and you didn't clear the codes, or if you cleared the codes the distributor timing is off. My bet is the new distributor is not set right. Are you aware that there are 2 timing marks on the balancer pulley and that they must BOTH be alligned. The cover has 2 marks at around the 1 o'clock and 3 o'clock positions. Line both up and remove the distributor cap and recheck rotor allignment with the number 1 mark on the distributor base.

oh ok no i didn't know there were two marks on the balancer and timing cover. sorry if this is a stupid qestion but i didn't notice a 1 mark on the distributor. would this be on the base where the dizzy meets the block, or is it on the inside with the rotor. thanks for the help.

The cylinder 1 tdc mark on the distributor is that triangle with a 6 on it that the rotor should point to. It's at the top of the distributor along the edge.
