2010 Fuel Filter Problem And Charging System

So hooked up to my trailer last weekend to haul some stuff and the battery was dead. Assumed from the trailer there was a light on inside. So I jumped it got it going and the service charging light was on. No big deal went away next time I restarted it. New problem after I restarted it Change Fuel Filter light was now on. Now normally most people wouldn't question it to much. The problem is the truck only has 4,500 miles on it! So finished my trip and got back and am at 5,200 miles so I called up the dealer and they said to bring it in. So headed over there and the Service charging system message comes up again. I had already planned to take it in for 2 other problems with the heated seats not working and the back bumper starting to rust but this truck is starting to get ridiculous. Anyone else seen the filter or charging problems?

As far as the fuel filter message - sounds like you got a tank full of bad diesel for it to drop that fast. Change the filter and see what it looks like. If it is the fuel, start buying it at a high volume station like King Soopers, where they get fuel directly from the Suncorp refinery in Commerce City. It does make a difference, especially with winter blend fuel.

As for the charging system message, I would have the dealer perform a full battery test on both batteries - sounds like one has a bad cell, and is draining both.

BTW - what dealer are you going to that isn't giving you grief about the edge? Usually that is grounds for a powertrain warranty block...

Fuel is almost always King Soopers actually cheapest and by my house. Talked to the dealer today and basically got a we have no idea on why it is doing anything. They are going to replace the fuel filter and try to figure out why it did it still. They gave me the reason on the battery is because the engine was cold. Obviously that is BS it was 50 here yesterday but they said it was because it was below 100 on the engine temp. I had also taken it in for a problem with the seat heaters not working on remote start in very cold conditions. They told me this was because it had been turned off so they reset. Also BS I believe my 07 worked flawless on the heaters in the cold. As far as the dealer its Len Lyall they have always been very good about things like that. When the lifters screwed up on my VortecMax I had an edge on it and they fixed it no questions asked. They have always seemed to play it on the fact of was it abuse or a defect from what I've seen. I will still take it back to them because they have always treated me well.

I think both problems are related to the dead battery. The fuel filter has a sensor that monitors fuel pressure. A low battery could cause it to "see" low fuel pressure and throw the filter message. I would test the batteries ablity to hold a charge.
