Ford has themselves a bit of a problem

Navistar, who makes Ford's diesel motors, is having a heck of a time getting a contract signed with its workers. Don't know if they are locked out at this time, but talks were going on to the last minute. If there isn't a contract signed by tonight at midnight work will cease at the Navistar plants.

Ford is sitting on the sidelines here pretty concerned about all this. Not good timing when they are just now coming out with the all new 6.0L Powerstroke. Ford has really been pushing for a settlement, but there hasn't been one.

Looks like if they don't get a contract signed today it'll be awhile til one gets signed.

Does that affect the Melrose Park plant. If so, I know people who work there. They have some cool R&D sh*t there.

the F-250 are about fords only REAL truck, but still wouldn't see ford profit numbers take a nice down-turn, and watch GM shoot out on top

No agreement yet, but they are back to talking to each other. The union is still real close to striking though.

CMT, from what I've read this includes all Navistar plants, from their OTR truck plants to the diesel motor plants to the distribution centers. Not a good deal for anyone if they strike.

In a very close vote (54% approval) the workers of Navistar approved their contract the other night, a five year one. Quite a few people were still upset with the results, but the majority won out. Turns out to be no work stoppage at all. Can't help but think Ford was really pushing for this to be settled.

You've heard the rumors that they own Cummins just as I have, but I'm thinking that isn't going to happen. If there was a stop in the flow of 'Strokes I'd bet they'd just have to stop building trucks ordered with them til they started getting them again. Now that would be a serious blow to them.

I can guarantee you that Ford was really pushing for this to be settled without a labor strike. But they also had the International plant in Huntsville, Alabama (no unions in Alabama) start running the new 6.0 down the assembly line when this started getting pretty close to a strike. Granted they were only producing 200 engines a day vs 1000 a day at the Indy plant, but that is better then nothing.

I for one am glad they got this settled without a strike. I'd like there to be a few 6.0PSD's around so I can buy one next year.
