Deposit Required When Ordering?

For those of you who ordered a new truck, did the dealer require a deposit? If so how much? Thanks in advance.

Ours asked for $1000 and we paid it.

Most dealerships don't require a deposit unless your ordering some sort of odd ball truck. Mine didn't even ask for one.

I have ordered numerous vehicles and never put anything down. But I would say depends on the dealer and what you are ordering.

But on the other hand, no deposit also means the dealer in not obligated to sell it to you or for the price you may have negotiated. Some early Camaro buyers found that out the hard way, when the car came in the dealer raised the price and they had nothing to hold the dealer to it.

zero and he ordered 2 for me one was a SLT and one was a SLE he said as long as I bought one he was ok and knew he could sell the other. The SLT showed up 2 days before the SLE it was cold out and those heated seats sold me because they both were leather.

It really seems to depend on the sales associate and probably the sales manager has a say too. I've encountered sales guys who won't even talk about ordering without a deposit. They want their commission and if they can't sell you something off of the lot or locate a vehicle for you, then they want some assurance you will come back when the ordered vehicle comes in and that they will get the commission on it.

 

I had a dealer in Florida insist on a deposit because I wanted to order heated seats, which he said were not worth anything in Florida. Granted, I only used those heated seats three mornings per year in Florida, but I've since moved north and use them all the time.

I never put antthing down,I like to wait till it comes in to make sure there aren't any new offers from GM. it happend on 2 cars that I ordered, I was afraid if I did they'd say well the deal you agreed on didn't include that incentive. With none of my money I can walk away if something isn't right and not have a battle to get my money back.

I generally TRY to leave a token deposit, even if they don't ask for one. It gives me some leverage if I need it.

When I ordered my 2500 Yukon the dealer wanted $2,000. I paid it since I knew I was going to buy it anyway and I had it written in the contract that I could get it back if upon delivery the vehicle was damaged, not equipped as ordered, or did not drive or pass my inspection. I put it on a CC and got 2000 air miles out of the deal.
