The Vue Is Back!

This is a brilliant move by GM. The costs of this vehicle were taken care of in C.11, and by selling it now, they won't be tarnishing the retail marques (like Ford is doing with the Taurus/Explorer) and they will be very profitable.

I can't find any comparisons online, but it looks real close in size to an Equinox. If it is, then what is the point of it?

Not really understanding this response so if you're going to bother responding to someone asking a legitimate question either answer it or don't bother posting.

I said the reason in my OP. Plus, there is the link to the story on Autoblog who has the official GM press release to read. It clearly says in the press release "what the point of it" is.

The link doesn't exactly explain it- this vehicle sounds very similar to something GM already sells. I don't buy into the thought of a model being in a rental fleet somehow degrading that particular vehicle. I've rented cars 12 times since late October, 8 this year alone (this is as far back as Hertz goes, but I'd bet I'm somewhere around 25-30 rentals a year) and I've never gone "oooh, this car is in their fleet so it must suck, I'd never buy it." I've been blown away by how nice some of the rentals I've gotten were- a top trim Equinox included. Unless these parts were just laying around collecting dust, I can't see the benefit. GM could easily sell the Equinox and the GMC in fleets rather than create some fleet-specific model that is nearly the same. And if it ends up being a lower-equipped model, all it will do is turn people off from GM who might otherwise be impressed by their new cars and CUVs. I know I've been very impressed by some of their newest stuff- I've been at this job 4 years and I've seen GMs sedans go from the ho-hum crap I'd never buy to several models that I've really liked.

It's been proven time and time again that when you fleet dump, resale value and the overall vehicle name gets tarnished. That is why Ford was smart and dumped the Taurus name in favor of Fusion. Then some bonehead thought it would be a good idea to bring 'Taurus' back.

As for not being clear...it actually couldn't be more clearer:

"We turned to our global network for a solution to quickly meet the rising demand from local fleet customers and continue to meet strong retail demand for the Equinox."

Yes, you may have to read between the lines a tad...but it's blatantly clear what GM is doing and why they are doing it.

Whatever. It seems my thought on fleet vehicles isn't the same as most folks. I use the absurd amount of work travel I do to sample all sorts of cars. Driven plenty I wouldn't mind owning, and plenty more I'd never touch again if at all possible.

Then redirect to the reason you've given and leave it at that.

from what I gather from the GM press release, the Captiva Sport is a Dedicated Crossover that is only available through GM Fleet, but its different enough that it won't leach Equinox Sales.

Which makes it even more of a bonehead move to bring the name back...

You, sir...get it.

I "got" the same from the article, I just don't see the point in it. Unless these parts were just sitting around I don't see the benefit to a fleet-only model that is in the same class as a (likely better) vehicle you already sell. I sort of understand continuing to sell old models to fleets like Chevy did with the Malibu/Classic and what Ford did with the old Taurus and more recently the Crown Vic but to go through the trouble to have a fleet only version. If anything offering a lower-spec model for fleet duty will harm GMs image to those who rent this thing and being uneducated as most people are, just lump in the very good Equinox with it and don't bother giving GM a look when they go to buy their next vehicle. Oh well. As long as work keeps up I should be able to tell y'all about this model before the year is up, because I'm sure I'll come across one.
