TxDoc Posted October 23, 2002 Posted October 23, 2002 Going from 2H to 4Hi is very smooth! Whoooosh. Not the slamming like the old InstaTrac. I have not gotten to experience the Auto setting. When in this setting and wheel slippage causes the front end to engage, can you feel or hear anything when it kicks in or kicks back out?

I can feel something in the front (like the tire grabbing for traction) and you can hear a slight growl. other than that it is smooth and quiet
Kania2k1 Posted October 23, 2002 Posted October 23, 2002 Mine usually sounds the same in 4H or AUTO. I did notice once in Auto the the rear slid just a little bit on a wet onramp, and when I let off the gas it caught up again. Gave it gas again, and it slid a little again. Not much, but just enough to notice when I let off. Can you guys hear more noise from the front when in 4H or AUTO? Haven't had enough wheel time behind other 4WD's
Shaners Posted October 23, 2002 Posted October 23, 2002 I agree that engagement is pretty smooth, but you will notice it when it engages. Once traction is equalized, you can let off the gas for a second or two, and it will disengage.
carguru Posted October 23, 2002 Posted October 23, 2002 Yep, it is seamless in its operation in auto or 4 hi. In auto, the only time you can tell is (like Ryan said) you hear a slight growl from the transfer case and the front tires starts to grab in low traction situation.
BlueRado Posted October 23, 2002 Posted October 23, 2002 Agree it's pretty seamless operation - I was shocked the first time I used it back in '99 when I had Green. I played w/ new Blue the other day on wet brick pavement on a hill, and it's about the same in how smooth it engages, but the whole transfer case and front end seem quieter - may just be new, though?
Texas Z Posted October 23, 2002 Posted October 23, 2002 I hear noise in the front when in auto 4wd but the front wheels are not engaged, especially when turning. Is that normal for the front to make noise when in auto but the wheels not engaged? Doesn't auto work by engaging the axles at the differential when it detects the back wheels slipping?

I believe the drive shaft is spinning and that is what you hear.
