Well I took my c3 in to have the god awfull clunk checked out and they said they would replace the slip yoke because mine was rusted and that was causing the clunk.  Happly walking out to the truck.  Thinking the clunk would be fixed!  I put it into reverse and CLUNK!!  I went right back in and complaind and they said they replaced it with a new nickel plated one, and the clunk was because it is all wheel drive!!

Have they mentioned anything to u guys about the rust!!

Would they have replaced it with a cheaper one or non niickel plated.  Would any of these be the case.  I have already talked to another c3 owner who had the same procedure done and it was fixed.

How come mine is different .

PLEASE SOMONE HELP!!!!!!

Thank you

Hey man, sorry to hear about your problems.

Ive had the #### cast iron, or whatever it is, slip yoke since i got my truck in 99!

I finally got them to agree to fix it, but i havnt taken it in.

Anyway, the other day i was changing all the fluids and axle seals and went ahead and greased up the slip yoke while i was at it.

True the old yoke rusts a bit around the outer part and sticks a bit causing the stupid "squak" when it slips in/out.

I lubed it up real good with Slick 50 Grease and its been perfect since :jester:

I dont know how long it'll last, but its way easy to grease up and ill just do it again when it starts up.

I dont know about your coninued "squak", but mine never made the noise in reverse.

Drive it around a bit and see if it still does it like it used to.

It may just need some more greasing up, or maybe they never greased it.

You can do it yourself in minutes man.

If it "clunks " going from park into gear, I would think it would be a universal joint.  It sounds like there is alot of driveline slack to me...

I had mine replaced about ten thousand miles ago.  It has worked great with no "Clunk".  No one said anything about rust though.  Sorry to hear the problems you are having.

mrups, don't know if this is applicable to the AWD trucks or not (is probably different transfer case, and thus different fluids), but there was a change in the autotrak transfer case fluid to a teal-colored fluid that had better lubricating properties. It cured the bump/clunk issue that was happening on acceleration and stopping.  If this is happening when changing gears or reverse to forward, I think Shaners is right.

You might check w/ the dealer, but after that "it's an AWD vehicle" comment, maybe you'd want a 2nd opinion?

Hope this helps!  :jester:

I agree with Shaners.....sounds like a U-Joint to me.  I've already had mine replaced once for the same noise.  I've got about 35k on the truck....

Had the u-joints done at 20k or so.  The slip yoke around 30 probably and the fluid at 36.  She's reasonably quiet now.  From what the techs and others say, apparently there's a certain amount of play put into the driveline.

Here's the tsb for the slip yoke, I think this also covers your c3:

You could check and see if they replaced the correct P/N.

I found another builliten from GM which kind of implied that some dealers were subsituting another slip yoke P/N instead of using the one in the TSB because demand was high and they were out of stock on them.

    • Do you remember that Harley Davidson was more successful (solvent) when it produced about 60% of the market demand (by design) and forced wait times of up to three years? Even when your turn came around it was, "Take what we are giving you or move to the back of the line and start over". HUGE markup's were 'normalized' and dealer killed. 40% markup and no floor plan? What's not to love? Greed will kill them yet. They have surplus production and customer base is tanking. And still they think nosebleed pricing will work.
    • The engine was done as part of the 6.2 recall?   You'd have to see if your VIN also has the 6.2 engine special coverage on it.  Coverage number is N252494003.  If you have this, your engine is covered under this and NOT the GM replacement part engine warranty which is 3yr/100k from the date of install.  The 3yr/100k mi warranty is in effect for non warranty purchases.     This is not any different if it was replaced under warranty without a recall or special coverage.  So if you had a 5.3 and it popped at 3 years in at 50,000mi during the 5yr/60k powertrain, the replacement engine would not get the 3yr/100k, and instead gets the remainder of the 5yr/60k as coverage.     So N252494003 gives 10 years or 150,000mi of coverage, which ever comes first, starting at the vehicle in service date.  So if your in service date is 01/01/2022, N252494003 gives you special coverage of the engine until 01/01/2032 or 150,000mi, whichever comes first.  So if your start date was 01/01/2022, you'd have left 5 years and 4 months (lets round to august 1st), or 62,000mi left of coverage.   So you need to know your in service date to know how much coverage is left.
    • Okiee dokie there bud, way to take things to the extreme.   I guess you missed the whole point and take things way to serious. I installed different EV6 style injectors that just so happen to be larger in my car running the same LQ4 engine and with a better spray pattern than the stock style injectors and I noticed no difference in the idle quality. Kinda was my round about way of saying that even if you put the same size but better style injectors in your truck, you will likely see the same thing.    I'm sure you're great to have conversations with in person if that's how you act through a keyboard. One little things sets you off and now I guess my dick is all up in your face.
    • I can't believe that could possibly be the case. It should be 36mo/100k miles from installation. Then again, it also seems like since a dealership installed it, it'd all be in the system and you wouldn't need to worry about registering, either. Shows you what I know. 😄 Hope this one outlives the warranty!
