Thinking About Enlisting

just looking for opinions and pros/cons from enlisted men/veterans on here as to enlisting...with the shitastic job market right now and lack of jobs in my degree of study i may end up enlisting, i have a few friends serving right now and they say if you don't have a wife or kids its a good gig...i have neither so whats everybody elses opinions?

If it is something you feel you can do every day and like you said, you don't have a wife or kids I say go for it. My senior year of High School my life long friend and I started the process of enlisting in the Marines. I ended up with a bad back and neck injury and wasn't able to enlist. I have mixed feelings every day about not getting to go in. I have friends and family who have had some very close calls while serving and most of my family has severed thru the years. My friend who was enlisting with me ended up switching over to Army and last I talked to him he is going for career. If you decide to go, I just want to say thank you for enlisting and keep safe.

Very admirable to think about enlisting. I had plans to but after finding out that I couldn't do, what I wanted to do, (because of my grades) I decided not to. Now, I wished I would have if for anything just for the experiance and travels. Granted, I would have been caught up in one of not two of the last conflicts but that's the chance you take.

I have a lot of friends who are in the process of enlisting, currently serving or about to get out of their 4 year active. I have friends in all branches and I've heard them all say that the Army has the best benefits for their soldiers. Hopefully we have a couple people here who have served to help you out.

Regarding the topic at hand, it's a tough decision to give your country a few years of your life. It's a tough job or everyone would be doing it. You will come out with experience that not many people will ever have. And, you will also come out with benefits that people, especially now, will never be afforded.

Do your research on branches and mos/rates and decide what you would like to do. If you want to learn a trade or skill, then pick one that you are interested in or marketable as a civilian. On the other hand, if you want to do cool stuff that you could never do as a civilian then look at it as a chance to.

Again, it's dangerous and not easy... Definitely a decision not to be taken lightly. BUT, I think everyone should serve.

If you decide to enlist, best of luck and God's speed...

I was gonna enlist out of high-school, but instead im going to college to try and get a commission as an officer. Try and get an associates degree and the will start you out as an E-4 (a specialist, i think). I'd go for it if that's what you truly want, just remember, once you sign that dotted line your there for your set amount of time. Just make sure you get a good job

yes i have a buddy that will come back as an E6 i believe and i plan to sit down and chat with him about it, i'm really on the fence...i have 50 credits from college so far and to be honest just loseing hope of finding a job...

woa i wasnt trying to offend anyone...i see i hit a sensitive bone in someone ooops. some people need to take a step out of USA's bubble and view the opinions of that country from a different perspective. i really am not trying to make anybody mad or trying to piss anybody off. since 9/11 i havent seen anything but innocent canadians get killed over-seas, young kids that got trapped into helping the usa, didnt sign up to take bullets thats forsure. it still happens. the OP was asking for opinions from people. thats my opinion, if you dont like it...keep it to yourself. BTW it is supporting the governments agenda...are you kidding me? from what ive seen the people in your country hate your government. i would too. i hate mine also. i wouldnt help them.

Well when you join the army, you don't sign up expecting to be doing nothing. You sign up knowing that you will deployed and possibly facing combat.
