Front Diff Change

Thank god

Ok well draining was easy but refilling and putting the skid plate back on was a PITA.  Especially when it was kinda cold

I added 1-2 qts (not sure).  I added about a qt and a half and it started draining out the fill plug.  I let it drain for awhile while i got a few PMs (thanks guys).  After this i added maybe 1/4 qt let it drain and i put the fill plug in.

Oil was dirty!!!

Here is a pic of the fill plug lots of metal shavings

front diff has got to be one of the easiest things on these trucks :chevy:

Changed mine about a month ago :)

wish they had a drain plug for the rear end instead of having to take the whole cover off

Interesting, my '99 3.73 non-locker had a nice drain plug, and my 4.10 non-locker on the '03 doesn't!   ???  ???

BTW, Ryan that amount of filings isn't bad at all.

BlueRado is correct, I believe my 99 3.73 non-locker also has a rear drain plug, but we took the cover off and replaced the gasket when doing the fluid changes.  Also hit the skidplate up with a little Simple Green to clean it up.

I used some prepsol cause i had a good coating of tar on it.

Anyone find it a PITA to put the skid plate back on?  One bolt (back drivers side) just wouldnt go in.

Also i have a drain and fill plug for the rear diff (00 3.73 locker)

I drove about 20 miles today and all is fine so far :chevy:

Glad to know it all got done.  Need to do the oil change here this week or so.  I may try a little of the top engine cleaner prior to it.  Picked up the aerosol today.
