Evap. Solenoid Warranty

2007 Silverado classic Crew Cab 2wd 4.8l Has po449 code, have checked and tried another gas cap and suspect solenoid is bad. Now has 48k miles. TSB was performed April '09 new solenoid and re-route hose (had same problem/code). My question is this covered under the 8/80,000 emission warranty? Thanks

I think you'll find the simple answer is "no" or probably not. Based on what others have reported it might be covered depending on the part that is actually causing the code. GM should be contacted.

Whats the point in having an emmission warranty when the part that controls venting of the fuel tank is not covered by the warranty? I wish I had never bought this POS government motors truck. The list of problems I have had would take up most of this forum. I guess I'll just bite it and buy a new solenoid. A quick continuity test shows its bad (again). Maybe I'll buy two so I'll have one in stock to replace in another 20k miles. Good luck to you all...

I would at least talk to GM and see what they say since you're sure what part is actually bad. What I meant by "Others have reported it might be covered depending on the part that is actually causing the code" is that sometimes the code was caused by something other than an emissions part. If that is the case then the person paid for the repair. I have read of some being denied under the emissions warranty (after bumper to bumper was gone) because it had already been replaced previously under warranty, and the dealer seemed to say it was a 1 time repair. In the end it all comes down to your dealer or someone with GM knowing it's the right thing to do by replacing it. As I said, I'd contact GM on this matter and see what they will do for you under the "goodwill" policy, or whatever it's called.

I wonder why you are having the failure rate that you are. Do you top off or overfill your tank. That's one of the big contributors, fuel being pushed into the unit.

Fortunately, the part is cheap and easy to replace.

Update....took the solenoid off and bench tested...its dead. Went to my local dealer where I bought the truck new and got the part number and it is not a covered part under the 8/80,000 emission warranty. So 100 bucks (discount from dealer "list" price of $153.00) buys me a new one and all is good again. I hope this one lasts more than 20,000 miles. So anyone that gets this same situation hopefully you will know what the deal is. I will refrain from further ranting about my disappointed experience with this vehicle. Good day....
