I have a 05 gmc denali. I just noticed that the hour meter that was at 1680 hours is now at 9 hours is it posible that I have acidently reset it? If so how can I find the true hours on the truck? Also if the insrument cluster is failing whats involved in changing it and where would i get one, do i have to take it to a dealer to have the milage inputed or will the computer generate that?

Its common...and the mileage is kept only in the cluster.

.IPC Engine Hour Meter Resets - keywords cluster DIC display hour meter intermittent start up #PIT4368A - (05/29/2007)2003-2007 Chevrolet Silverado Classic

2003-2007 GMC Sierra ClassicSome owners may comment of the ipc engine hour meter resetting. This concern may be very intermittent and normally occurs at key up and/or start up.

GM Engineering is aware of this concern and working on a correction. At this time there has been varying success repairing this concern with the following information:

Check the battery/s with the Midtronic's battery tester and also perform a load test using a Vat40 or similar load tester to make sure the battery/s are in good condition. We have found in some cases a weak battery could cause this concern, this step is very important on vehicles with the 6.6L Diesel Engine where both batteries are used for cranking the engine.
Check the battery cables and make sure all connections are clean and tight.
Check the IPC powers and grounds (G200, G203, G100, G110 and the braided ground strap between the engine and cowl G104 and G107) connections and make sure they are clean and tight.

If the IPC has not been replaced, replace the IPC.

So where might i be able to buy a new cluster and is it something i can change on my own. If i change it myself how do i input the milage and hours back into it.

If it's only the hour meter, I wouldn't bother with worrying about it. As long as the rest is Ok. We've had several have this reset problem and is confined to the hour meter only.

Same issue with mine (2007 Silverado) but I don't know exactly when it happened. Was scrolling thru the display and it said 52 hours. I always wondered of what use an hourmeter in a pickup truck was anyway. This has been the least of my issues. I just hope the speedo holds up....I know of several people (3) that had to replace the cluster in their trucks (two 2004's and a 2003 GMC) because of an inoperative speedo and they were all just outside of the "extended" warranty so graciously provided by GM. Thanks for all the info provided on this site.
