stock ac delco....platinums or iridiums(can't rememeber, both work well)

Yup I agree!! From personal experience the other brands that offer the platinums and stuff will cause spitting and sputtering on these vortec motors. Don't know why but they do. Just stick with AC Delco's.

Definitely stick with what the vehicle came with, in respect to copper/platinum/iridium. I'm sure you've looked through some of the other forums and have seen things like "copper is a better conductor than platinum/iridium" and so on. Don't listen to those ignorant sluts! lol

First of all, technically, all plugs are copper, as in they all have copper cores. You may hear someone say "copper electrode". That is impossible. A copper electrode would melt/erode/corrode instantaneously inside a combustion chamber. To combat this, manufacturers coat their copper cores with a nickel/chromium or similar plating. ONCE you get into that, it's reasonable to argue that platinum/iridium are in fact better conductors than nickel.

Secondly, ignition systems have changed dramatically in the last 20 years. Traditional ignition systems (points or electronic distributor sysems) push positively charged electrons through the spark plug's center electrode, which arcs to the side electrode, then ground into the engine/chassis. Engines that have coil-over-plug designs like the currently produced vortecs operate similarly.

Earlier distributorless systems, such as the ignition system found on a late 90's S-10 pickup with a 4-cyl only have 2 coils for 4 plugs. How this operates is the coil will actually pull a negetive charge through the side electrode of one plug, arc to the center electrode, pass through the wire into the coil where it will then become a positive charge and jump through the center electrode to the side electrode and back into the block. To break it down, two of the four plugs actually fire backwards!!! That's why a double platinum came factory, and is strongly recommended for replacement. If you replace them with a single platinum, the two plugs which fire conventionally will outlast the reverse fire plugs, who's side electrodes will errode very quickly in comparison.

Well... now that I've put everyone to sleep with that rant, I hope you can all say "hey, I learned something new today" lol.

Go with E3's

I Agree but no one else will........60K miles on the E3's and never experienced any codes or misfire as others "say" will happen. I also run Magnecor wires KV85's.
