Space74 Posted April 4, 2011 Posted April 4, 2011 Just wondering if there is a way to stop using the on board blue tooth if I wanted to use my cell for private call with people in the truck.
mc7719 Posted April 4, 2011 Posted April 4, 2011 Yes, if you pickup using the "answer" button ON THE PHONE (not the steering wheel) it should connect the call to the handset only (and not the truck). I've done this inadvertently a few times... accidentally pressing the phone answer button, then talking out loud and not hearing anything through the truck speakers because the call is routed to the handset sitting on the console. Pick up the phone, and there's my call lol
HawkScot Posted April 4, 2011 Posted April 4, 2011 From the 2011 GMC Sierra Owners manual (7-50) Transferring Audio from the Bluetooth System to a Cell Phone During a call with the audio in the vehicle: 1. Press phone button on steering wheel. 2. Say “Transfer Call.” Transferring Audio to the Bluetooth System from a Cell Phone During a call with the audio on the cell phone, press phone button on steering wheel. The audio transfers to the vehicle. If the audio does not transfer to the vehicle, use the audio transfer feature on the cell phone. See your cell phone manufacturer's user guide for more information.
Troops2990 Posted April 5, 2011 Posted April 5, 2011 Not sure how your phone is set up but on mine i'll answer it and then on the call screen it has a button that says "bluetooth" that will be lit up when bluetooth is connected, i push that and it disconnects from the truck and only comes through on my phone.

old-chevy-dude Posted April 5, 2011 Posted April 5, 2011 well me personally, unless it's a dire emergency I don't answer my phone in the truck. When I am in the drivers seat my primary concern is driving the vehicle, but then again I live and work in Los Angeles, and being distracted here is a no no, because everyone else is already distracted and I have to watch everything THEY do. I love the gadgets on my truck, but I try very hard to not use them while driving..

I understand what it is for and why, however I don't personally feel the need to answer my phone while I am driving, especially when my kid is in the car with me.. it's just me.. I focus on driving, not talking wanna see some video of my drive this morning, I was cut off 4 times, "pushed" into another lane by a retard that decided past the last second he wanted to change freeways so he cut thru the interchange split barricade and nearly forced me into another vehicle, a speeder past me on the shoulder and realize he was about to hit the wall and cut across me doing 90+ and clip another vehicle, then there was the 2 idiots that ran a red light doing in excess of 60mph in a 35 zone racing, and the light had been red long enough for the 3 cars in front of me to go thru the intersection.. had I been yaking on a phone I probably would not have seen these asshats coming. I live and work in L.A. it's little TJ, the road rules don't apply and everyone does what they want, when they want and most are uninsured and unlicensed, I can do without the phone distraction.

Do you ever talk to people in the vehicle with you? Using handsfree properly is just like that. You are no more distracting than you are talking to your wife sitting next to you, and I would actually say you are less distracted since you do not try to make eye contact when on the phone. Not trying to talk you into doing something you are not comfortable with, just trying to get you to see the other side. We all have to deal with the drivers that get distracted by the wipers going across in front of them when it is raining.

It's just me I personally don't ever feel the need to use my phone while driving (or a restaurant, or any public place for that matter).. I don't mess with the radio either, I put the ipod on my choosen playlist with shuffle repeat before putting car in gear, and aside from volume adjustment I don't mess with it. When the wife is in the car, she changes the music. I've never been a fan of speaker phone either, so that's probably why I don't have much use for the bluetooth.. even talking to the OnStar reps the past 6 weeks, I have always pulled over before calling them, I don't do it on the move.. it's just me.. spent too many years driving in this horrible idiotic city..
