i had a back up cam on my old tahoe and it helped me out alot! i had to have one on my Silverado too! so i went with an oem style.

mirror is a Gentex GNTX-65. i got it off ebay.

its basically plug and play for my truck. the autodim works and everything just fine that was the easy part

first i started with drilling a hole in the bed and a hole in the tailgate to run the wires

sprayed it with some paint so the metal wont rust. ran the wire from the camera out the tailgate

how it looks with it ran

then i tapped the positive and negative to the OEM plug that is hanging under the dash on the left side. the plug is just hanging there. white is positive and blue is negative.

the grey wire is the video input wire

ran the input wire through the e-brake cable gromet

all in all. it works great! helps out alot! installation was very easy and straight forward. the new mirror is taller then the old one. so you see the out the whole rear window. thanks for looking!

Mine came with one from the factory and it doesn't even have those assist lines. Nice install!

does the gentex mirror come with the bezel and camera in the back? if not, what else did you have to buy?

is the grey video wire already pre-wired? were the poistive and negative wires you tapped coming from the camera, or the mirror?

the picture with the red circle around the plug is the input wire to the mirror. its located under the dash. left side. near the e-brake. thats how the plug looks. it just hangs there. the blue and white wire that are next to eachother are the wires you want to tap. blue is negative. white is positive. the gentex mirror didnt come with a bezel and camera. i bought it seprate. the guy i bought the mirror from threw in that grey video lead wire so i can tap into that plug.

i forget to mention that i tapped the power supply for the camera into my reverse light. so the camera only gets power when its in reverse

does the stock mirror take a standard video input? I am looking to put a camera on the back of my slide in and hook it up to the stock mirror, but the oem camera is much too expensive.

i should have said i already have a stock back up camera with the screen in the mirror, and want to put a second camera on the camper, as i take the tailgate off and unplug it when i have the camper in the bed. i would like to know if the stock camera sends a standard video signal to the mirror, this way i can pickup an aftermarket camera and just replace the plug to work with the stock plug and screen.

yeah it takes a standard input. so any camera should work. i tested my mirror with my digital camera before i hooked up the tailgate cam

With a backup camera being a factory option, why is it necessary to drill holes in the tailgate and bed?

Are there not factory holes/openings that are plugged with a rubber cap or something similar?

TIA.
