Planning A Nav Upgrade, Non-bose, Bluetooth(upf), Cd Player (uui) W/ U

Ok guys, I'm planning a Nav upgrade and like the title says, my truck has the following:

2011 Ext Cab 1500

-Power tech pkg

-CD Player (UUI) w/ USB

-Bluetooth (UPF)

-Convenience Pkg

DOH! I didnt mean to submit, my computer at work sucks balls, I inadvertently submitted the thread without finishing, then my computer died!

Anyways... Here's the rest of what I was going to say!

I've done alot of research, and here's some of the conclusions I've come to.

-For now the stock speakers suit me fine

-I like when head unit's illumination matches the factory illumination, definite requirement

-I want Nav, bluetooth, ipod compatibility, XM and some sort of traffic capability

-I want to use the existing XM antenna

-I want to use the existing Onstar microphone (if possible, or find a good location for the aftermarket microphone)

-I want to keep Onstar

-I want to keep my rear park assist

-I want to add rear view camera using the brandmotion kit.

-I want to use my factory steering wheel controls (including the ones for handsfree calling)

I've considered going with a Factory Nav headunit. The one's that I have found that are a reasonable price, the illumination doesn't match (red), and they dont support USB.

About the factory bluetooth. I've had my truck about a week and have noticed already some glitches in handsfree call answering and operation with the factory bluetooth. Having owned a 2010 Camaro with bluetooth, I'm not used to this, the bluetooth in the Camaro functioned flawlessly from day one. I'd say that the factory bluetooth has worked about 40% or 50%... I've answered 4 or 5 calls since getting the truck and had major issues answering the call on 3 of them.

That being said, im not opposed to bypassing or removing (if possible) the factory bluetooth module and using the controls on the steering wheel to operate the bluetooth call functions of the aftermarket radio... is this possible?

The Nav unit that im considering buying is the Pioneer AVIC-X930BT. I really like head units with volume knobs.... call me old fashioned, but when I need to get the volume down quick, it's nice to reach up and give the knob a quick spin. I also like the Pandora and AHA radio functions of the Pioneer as well. I've owned AVICs in the past and liked them.

Let's move on to harness. Metra shows a ton of harnesses that are "compatible", but my research has led me to three harnesses... Metra GMOS-LAN-01, which apparently does everything I need it to do except the blinker relay.... Crutchfield recommends this one. Metra GMOS-LAN-100, Crutchfield doesn't list this one at all, but according to Metra's website, it does EVERYTHING and seems to be plug and play, more so than the LAN-01 harness which requires the additional blinker relay. Last is the PAC OS4, which appears to be another one that does EVERYTHING.

So which harness should I go with?

Last thing. The Brand Motion rear view camera kit looks (essentially is) factory. I want to go with that setup, will I have any issues integrating it into the truck with the after market head unit?

Sorry for the long post, alot to read im sure!

After checking the price of the brandmotion kit, and realizing that I dont really need the factory plugs since im putting an aftermarket head unit in anyway, I dont think I'll be going that route. I'll just buy an aftermarket camera, such as the Boyo VTK350 and the bezel and run the cable to the back of the radio.

I just installed one to see how I like it. Only problem I have found with it is that if you leave the key in the ignition when you turn off the truck the dash lights stay on. All the factory stuff works fine.

I have a friend that works for Audiovox and he hooked me up. I do know that if someone comes in there shop they install them for $999.00. Don’t know what they would sell them out the door for.

hmm. I don't know of any shop that would do that install for under $100 so maybe the units sell for like $899. It'd be worth it at that price for the ease alone, but any higher i'd rather go with a better aftermarket unit because pretty much any navi unit on the market can be found for $900 if your resourceful.

If you could find a link to buy online or find out what the unit itself sells for since I'll be installing myself, could you post it up?

Oh and it looks nice and clean installed. Any pics at night so we can see how it matches with the factory illumination? That's sort of important to me but not a complete deal breaker.

Here is the night pictures.

Yes its plug and play except the ipod adapter and mic (both included). There is a mic built into the headunit if you dont want to run the mic. I do not have a ipod that plays video so i just tied into the factory usb cable that runs into the center console.

looks great, is this a plug and play? Or does it require an interface harness?

If no harness is required, I'd be very interested. How would you add a backup camera?

Here is the installation manual I found online. I don’t have a backup camera but I’m going to look into that next.

Do you think I could use my factory bluetooth with this head unit? Steering wheel controls work as well?

Thanks for the night pics, the illum color looks like a perfect match

Wow this looks very nice! Thanks for the pictures! I too am extremely interested in this HU. Like "J to tha D," I would like to keep the factory look esp. the color has to match and from the pics it looks very well. I've got the following options:

Non-bose speakers

XM radio

OnStar

Rear backup assist

Steering wheel controls

USB port (supports ipod)

Bluetooth

I too would like a nice HU that adds Navigation & backup camera capabilites but I want to retain all of my factory options.

Smooney - it sounds like this HU is completely plug n play (except for ipod & mic). It also sounds like this HU will retain all of my factory options and add NAV & Backup CAM.

Do I need to add an external amp since I don't have Bose? Did you retain the door chimes? Do I need any special adapters?

I'm sorry for all of the questions but I just want to make sure I have all of my questions answered before I spend the 1k or whatever it costs.

FINALLY! a OE-style upgrade that doesn't SUCK like the Rosen unit!!!!!

i am definitely getting my hands on one of these!!!!!!!!!!!!

i currently do not have bluetooth, but does anyone know if the 86177-PAC harness to integrate the Parrot Bluetooth will wire the bluetooth on this nav up to the onstar microphone?
