09 1500 W/ 4speed Auto Has Hard Shifts

my truck is a 2009 Silverado 1500 LS crewcab 4x4 w/ 4.8L

so, im almost at 60 000 kms and i want to get the hard shifting checked out whild it was still free. i bought the truck used at 45 000 kms and just thought that the 4speed auto tranny was just garbage. to the point i was regreting trading in my 04 f150!

the symptoms were mainly where the tranny decided to either drop a gear or not. i would come to a small hill doin 25+ mph. go past half throttle and it would drop 2 gears and take off! on the hiway, it rendered the cruise control useless on medium gradients.

so the service guy said we did the lower ball joints, tell us if that made a difference. I say god damn! I love the truck now! better handing, shifts normal.. yep... i put this out there in the hopes that others who think the 4speed tranny sucks, get the front end checked!

Reminds me of a running joke in a garage I use to work in. Went something like this. Mrs. So-n-so says that ever since you aired up her tires, her radio doesn't work.

Bu seriously, did they explain how this is related?

Well I didn't ask the guy (i assume so other things were done too, like a maybe an ecm flash or something) but... i was thinking if the lower ball joints are hooped, that would put alot of strain on the camber angle and bearings.. if this could cause enough friction to act like a light front brake, that could make the engine work harder. you think?

this boggles my mind.... ive driven MANY things with bad balljoints and they have never affected the tranny....

once I had a hard 1 to 2 shift that would snap ya back into the seat....turned out it was missing valve stem cap on left rear....all is good now :sigh:

seriously it sounds like the tranny was low on fluid and they may have added a temp Lucas fix
