Tow/haul

Well, IDK what happened....

I went to turn my tow haul on yesterday as I started to pull out with a trailer with my 4wheeler on it.... Noticed the light did not illuminate. I kept fumbling around with the button on the end and it would not come on. So I settled for 3rd gear.........

While in 3rd gear I gave it a try and POP.... Magic it came on and the shift points changed. Sure enough it works in 3rd but not in drive.

After much confusion I noticed I can not get into to tow haul mode in Drive or Reverse.

Anybody out had this problem? ?? ??? ????

Utterly confused,

Jbo

Don't know if it matters but right before the problem started....... I spun a little coming up a hill and pulled the truck into 1st gear.... got out and went about 1/2 mile in 1st doing about 55.... did not notice that I had it in 1st.... DONT ASK and DONT tell me.... I know head up A$$ on the 55 in 1st gear... It must have made a manual change in the valve body because it downshifted as I slowed down, but I know the shifter was in 1st..... OOOOPPPPPPSSSSSS

I play with some mid 90s cars with the 4L60E and unless you put a Transgo kit in them they have a electronic 1-2 shift regardless of shifter position, so you got into 2nd.

I can't comment on the tow mode thing.

Had the exact same problem in the summer. The wire is likely frayed near the bottom of the shifter and you will have to re-solder it together and plug it back in. The reason it may work sometimes in third is because the wires were touching in that position. To remove pull the rubber grommet out and use an allen key to remove. There are small plastic clips that hold it in pull on those to remove. Many people will say if its broke you can't fix it but if the wires are broke below the shifter you can re-solder it. Best of luck.

No rubber left on my shifter, I will look..... Sounds like it could be the problem. Shorts the circuit at certain places....

Not Quite sure how I rated a move to trailers, hitches, & towing. The Tow Haul switch is in operative in certain ranges. Not really a towing problem. More of a general question, as it is a problem not actually dealing with towing but OK.......

Thanks for the move Mod...

If anyone has this problem it was exactly what brguzz said it was.

I ordered a new shifter, grommet, and screw for the shifter handle.....

Pulled it apart last night and found the wires completely tore into 2 separate pieces.

You may can solder the wires back together....... But less than 100 bucks I fixed it..... Took about 15 minutes to change the parts and zip tie it all out of the way better than they did.... I have my extra handle..... I might get around to fixing mine when my 01 2500 does it tooooo.......

    • New to this forum.  Also looking to tune a 6L80 and trying to work out all the issues in my transmission swap.  I have a 6.2 diesel (1983) and have removed the TH-400 and about to put in a 6L80 with a TCM-2600 interface and don't have a clue what I doing after that.  Did you (Leatherneck/RAV3) get your slip resolved? I too hate to spend that kind of money on a tuner that hopefully I will not need too many times although from what steelerdude15 added about the HP Tuner being great for diagnostics would be a plus.  I am also from WNC but below you in Columbus.  Any helo would be greatly appreciated.

    • Wouldn't swapping out the original AFM/DFM parts for a complete Delete Kit be the best route to go if one could afford to go that route?
