Taking Truck To The Track..

im going with some of my friends to some high school drag race thing where kids race their shitty civics and s10s and whatnot, and were gonna take our trucks and some their drag cars.

now my question is, what can i do to my truck (the 2001) to squeeze the fastest time out of it? idk anything about this stuff but im gonna take my right headlight out so i have good air flow, maybe fold the mirrors in? idk if taking the tailgate off would help.. im gonna set my tune to premium and also gonna make sure i have like a quarter tank when i go.

and what would be the best way to start? im thinking hold the brake and accelerate and let off brake when its green? i can hold the brake and rev and it will hold until about 1700 rpm.

Don't even waste your time taking out the leadlight or folding in the mirrors, that won't do a darn thing. Your won't be going fast enough and your lightly modded motor won't suck in a ounce more air with a headlight out, it is already making as much power as it is gonna make with the setup you have now (but make sure you air filter is clean and new)

Just think WEIGHT WEIGHT WEIGHT! Take out anything in the truck you don't need (you have the right idea with taking the gate off), get it a bare bones as possible (maybe even remove the spare if you want to chance it) Also remember that fuel weights a lot too ( I know you mentioned about only having about a quarter tank, one U.S. gallon of fuel weighs 6.073 pounds. Full tank of 26 gallons = 157.89 pounds ! Your shooting for having each one of your motors horse power having to haul the least amount of weight possible down the track, working the motors less hard= better pulling power.

You could also pump up your front tires to max pressure for less rolling resistance (but don't do this in the rear, as you'll decrease the tire contact patch)

A little power braking won't hurt, I wouldn't go crazy though, I would hold it somewhere between 1,200-1,500 (but only do this for a sec or two so as to not stress than trans to much).

I have had my 96 truck in my signature at Atco Raceway, the best time she did (as she sits in the picture with the cap) was 17.6 @ 78 mph (no power braking on the launch).

Here are some pics from one of the time I went
