2wd...How Big?

How big of tire can I fit on a 2wd '89 silverado with 15" wheels?  Stocks are 225/70/r15, but I would like to go much bigger.  285s will fit a 4x4, but how about a 4x2?

 

Also, what tire should I buy?  I mostly drive on pavement, but sometimes a little off road (hunting, through cornfield...).  I also tow 2,000 lbs frequently.

I put some BFG 31x10.50R15's on my 1998 C1500, any larger and they would probably rub w/o a lift kit (body or suspension).  I don't think you will be able to fit an equivalent sized tire to a 285-70-R16 on a 2wd w/o at least a 3-inch lift.

Had a set of 31x10.50x15 BFG ATs on my old truck and they worked great. Any bigger would probably rub.
